Hi Guys, needs some help finding/aquiring a replacement fan for an ABIT NF7-M motherbaord. The northbridge fan is fried (due to the owners being heavy smokers and glogging the fan). I've no idea how long its been out but it cant be doing the chip any good.

I have seen replacments section on the ABIT USA site (http://www.abit-usa.com/abitparts/chipset_fan.php) but the fan i need is currently unavailble. (ABIT Northbridge Chipset Fan
(2-Pin Connector))

I've spent the evening cleaning the insides out, I can't beleive how much crap has built up, and worst of all, as they smoke it had all clung to the dust. Bloody disgusting... never again.

I have managed to fry the PSU having sucked some of the dust from it, i must have shorted something. Luckly I had a replacment PSU and the rest of the system appears fine.

Cheers

When it died, I replaced the Northbridge fan on my NF7-S with a Zalman Northbridge Silent Cooler. I bought it from a Maplin store for twelve quid as I was in a rush, so you might get one online for cheaper.

It's quite tall, so check it doesn't foul on the CPU cooler. You will also need to remove the motherboard from the case to fit it.

Best thing about it is that being passive, it doesn't make any noise or have any moving parts to fail in future. :)

EDIT: Komplett do 'em for £3.50 + P&P.

And if the above doesn't appeal, something like the Thermaltake Crystal Orb should do the job nicely.

Your a star Cad, cheers :)

I did see a silent cooler but it said it wasnt compatible with cars with onboard graphics. Ill take a look at those. :)

I've bought the silent one, worth it as they will only clog it all up again.

Ah, overlooked that bit - it was getting late.

The Zalman jobby isn't recommended for a Northbridge with integrated graphics core - which is what I guess your friends have got on their NF7-M.

Unless:

1. ZM-NB47J is compatible with all Northbridge chipsets that do not have a built-in graphics core.
2. Northbridge chipsets with built-in graphics core are compatible ONLY IF the following conditions
    are met.
    1) The Northbridge chipset MUST be located between the CPU socket and AGP (or PCle) slot.
    2) The CPU cooler must be one of the Zalman Recommended CPU Coolers (CNPS6500B, CNPS7000B, CNPS7700 and CNPS9500 allow more stable and silent operation.)

The requirement to use the Zalman flower coolers is probably because they'ed give some additional airflow over the Northbridge heatsink.

Up to you.  Or you could try the Crystal Orb instead.

Yea, not thinking straight,, canceld order and made new one with orb (and some nice blue case fans for me :) )

watercooling is the way to go :D Nice and quiet and no pesky fans to get gunged up :D

the orb has been OOS for almost a month, and they still dont know when they will be getting any in.

Anyone seen any lurking on the net or a sutable alternative.
