Hey guys,

My friend was using her computer the other day and it just froze, cursor didnt move, ctrl:alt:del didnt work, so she restarted and it didnt even display the POST BIOS screen....

Ive tried various components in the computer including RAM, HDD's, GFX and PCI cards and they are all working fine. I have also tryed another graphics card in it and had no luck so it must be either a motherboard or CPU problem.

As i have no spare socket A cpu's about i cant find out which is the problem without spending money. I was wondering what you guys think the problem is?
When the computer is switched on it powers on the HDD's but doesnt switch the monitor on (monitor light flashes). It doesnt beep and the HDD actvity light is constantly on. Personally i think it might be the CPU.... any ideas?

Thanks alot,
KC

Update:

I just took the cpu out and it looked ok, put it back in and tryed it again. It displayed the nvidia chipset logo and nothing else. After restarting it didnt display anything but after repeating these steps it did the same (displayed the logo then nothing)

I had the same probs fews weeks ago
Are the pins from the cpu not broken?
Did it go easy on again when you put it back on his place , cos if some pins are broken ore bent you can have this prob.

all the pins are fine as far as i can see. it went back in with no problem.
do you think its a CPU problem then?

Hmm i thought it was the cpu but now im not so sure off it.
as you say that when you put the pc on the monitor wont go on it can also be your card.
Like i said above i did have realy the same prob only thing is here it was the cpu.

If you remove the CPU and attempt to boot the system it will fail one of the first POST checks (CPU present), but should still at least beep to tell you of this (Assuming you have your case speaker for the mobo POST beeps plugged in). If you remove the CPU and turn on the system do you get any POST beeps? If not, i'd be inclined to blame the motherboard.

It must be the motherboard then.....
