Epic racing last night guys.

I went online about 7.30, didn't have the thruxton track but quickly d/l it and joined the fray.

There was Deetz, Doorman and then OB then showed up.

First time I've been round Thruxton, great track though, lots of flat out racing, but with some hairy corners to unsettle the car as you hang on for dear life as the car gets pushed out wide and some  technical little chicanes that can throw your car off line if you go into fast. The last chicane in particular you have to be careful how much of corner you cut as it seriously unsettles your car  :D

After qualifiying Doorman and I ended up in a fantastic head to head race for about 4 laps. Doorman was right on my bumper in his Lotus Cortina, me trying to keep it all together in my new car an Alfa GTA - I love this car, the scream from the Boxer engine is fantastic. We went head to head for at least 4 laps, it was great, when ever I pulled away under acceleration through the corners, Doorman would then reel me in using his better top end speed and braking.

Eventually after tailing me for a while and no doubt sussing out my racing lines (I used that word loosley as I don't really have racing lines  ) - Doorman went for a daring overtaking maneuveur - doing 120+mph on the final straight before the chicane leading onto the grid, Doorman out brakes me and goes late into the chicane, just holds it together and he's through - nice move!  :worship:

So now I'm following doorman for 1.5 haps and knowing we are running out of laps I'm giving it some beans but... it doesn't seem enough as Doorman kept it all together using his superior top speed and consistent driving to great effect - he pulls out a 20 second or so gap, I'm resigned to coming 2nd. But then...

Doorman driving flat out takes one of the treacherous right handers maybe a bit too fast(?) maybe his tyres are starting to go off(?), or maybe the concentration slipped -  I see a bit of dust in front of me, and hear Doorman mutter into his mike, he's had a bit of a moment and come of the track.

He's still moving but he's on the grass finding his way back to the track. I can't believe my luck and shoot past and then drive another lap steadily but with Ron again catching up, to take the 1st place, with Ron 2nd - what an epic race.

It was so close for the majority of the race, we both said aftwards - it felt like we where there, actually racing, feeling the cars drifting, trying not to make mistakes, feeling the pressure of the other guy breathing down your neck - totally immersed - the best race I've ever had in any game, period - I was knackered after that. Cheers Ron!  :)

So nice to play with you guys who treat their cars like they are your own ie instead of deliberately knocking you off on a corner.  I had no contact with any cars on that race. Well played to OB and Deetz for making it a good race.

Afterwards Benninio and some pubs joined - one who was amazing in his Alfa GTA, knocking 4 seconds of my previous best around Thruxton, I couldn't keep with him and he went on to win. I will be studying his racing lines on the replay

Unfortunately in this race on lap 2, someone in a green car, had an off and then waited in the middle of the track at the end of the 120mph straight! That caused quite a bit of confusion, I had a crash trying to avoid the car under braking - but these things happen in racing  :)

Could I suggest in future if you do come of the track and your waiting to get back on, to stay on the opposite side of the racing line to avoid collisions? Just a thought.

Ron do you have a copy of our race, could you email it to me?

Looking forward to the next race!

I think I've got fraps on a pc CD but i'll check it out and thanks for the offer.

So why do you want to see the movie Duvel?  :)

Doorman

Indeed a great battle. Probably one of the best I've had! What a wally though, giving it back on the last lap.
I thought I had the replay but.....unfortunately GTL keeps the last race on a given track and needless to say we went on to have some more races afterwards. Sorry. If you've not raced on Thruxton since out epic, you've probably got it yourself. Unless you disabled autosave. Have a look in the 'ReplayData folder. Never know, could be lucky.

Dewey if this was your first time on the track you should have it in your replay section in the main menu.

See my guide to GTL on how to keep all your future recordings by adding dates to the files.

Thanks Delanvital, unfortunately I played another race after that, and on hitting the replay race button it showed the last one not the previous.

Yes Ron told me to spread the word  :dribble:

But guys, DFP FF wheels are going cheap as chips now, about £55 new or £20 on ebay 2nd hand. Thats all ya need apart from the game - £17 from the usual places.

After the LAN loads of people have got wheels now, and last thursday there where about 12 or so of us battling it out - you know it makes sense!  :D

Hippy

I have rather a small desk, Only just enough room for my mouse mat.

If i had a wheel it would block the view of the monitor.  <_<
