Ok, I'm going to the US later in the year and want to know if I can connect to an EU Aszune server from a US install of WoW.  I'm kind of assuming that a US bought package only connects to US servers and that therefore I would need to bring my WoW CDs and install my Euro-friendly WoW on a US machine, or get it up and running on a aptop and take the laptop with me.  I know there are a few techies amongst us, so does anyone know for sure?

As only europe servers appear in the WOW Eu software, it would almost be 100% you can only connect to US servers using US WOW. Plus I beleive the cliants are sligthly differnt and probably not compatable for that very reason.

I played WoW from my laptop with the standard Euro install last year in the US so thats not a problem. Using other media would probably not work imo

Ok, look l'll have to install it on a laptop to ensure I can get some raiding done whilst I'm in Atlanta

Install a euro edition....rest is the same...... the internet in the us is the same as europe.  Try to search on the forums of WoW  maybe there have some additional information.

I know that when I first got WoW I didn't read the instruction manual, and tried to validate my CD-Key on the US website. I got very upset about it rejecting my key as invalid, until Laura pointed out that I should be using the eu site. Given that you can't validate a UK key on the US validation servers I would imagine you can't play on each other's servers either.

It may be possible. When I played on a private server I made at my house, i just changed the location to connect to in a file from eu.logon.worldofwarcraft.com to localhost. Could try changing it to us.logon.worldofwarcraft.com, I don't know for sure though.

A buddy of mine played here in The Netherlands with a US copy of the game on the US realms, so it should be possible.

Well, THeodwyn played on US servers from here, and i think you need to install an EU package. If not you can just copy the serverlist from the original package(EU) and into the other realmlist.

running a EU version from the US (or anywhere in teh world) will still connect you to EU servers.

The changing of a US-version to a EU is quite easy, just change the realmlist.wth(?) to eu.logon.worldofwarcraft.com. Well let's say this worked back in beta when I first was in the US-beta stress test and than got into EU beta test. Worked for me. (could be changed)
But you got an EU version so it should be no problem. Only the lag could even be worse

Right, I managed to persuade an american friend of mine to let me borrow his account details. I changed the realmlist.wth file to "us.logon.worldofwarcraft.com" from "eu.logon.worldofwarcraft.com". I saved the file, and started the game logging into his account, and it worked :) So in theory, it would work fine the other way around to.
