Hey guys,

I decided to try Linux (red hat flavour) the other day.. only to find out that my wireless adapter didn’t work on it. so i gave up and started to re-install windows.
I stated the setup as normal (booted from CD, formatted using NTFS...etc) the computer then restarted and I received the message "missing operating system".

The BIOS boot order is correct,
I have tried fdisk /mbr on the ms-Dos disk and checked that the partition is active,
I have tried the recovery console commands "fixmbr" and "fixboot",
I have tried formatting the drive as FAT32..

But still no luck
I have also received the message "error loading operating system"

It seams that Linux doesn’t want me going back to windows and it was fine before...lol.

Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated.

try deleting the partition, rebooting and creating a new partition

I've tried that and no luck

What did you use to create the partition?

killcrazy

Well the fist time i used the XP CD.
I have also tried a fdisk on the Win98 boot diskett and it has the same problem.
I have also changed the BIOS but still no luck.

ok ive fixed it now...

i first deleted the active partition using fdisk after booting from the Win98 diskett,
i then started the XP install of the CD, formatted and its working now.

so the "fdisk" (ms-dos) program must delete something that the partition wizard on the XP installation doenst...

thanks BB for trying to help

KC, in your avatar it shows someone who appears to have their neck pierced. Is that you? if so, why?
