Well I just played it and I really enjoyed it. I've only played it through once, but I think the dynamic difficulty is a great idea. I found my self trying hard to kill them efficently to see how difficult they would get. (Of course I could have just pushed up the slider, but that wouldn't be fun) There is an interesting array of stats to look at too.

I liked it. I came in expecting it to be nothing more than the first SiN with better graphics. I.e. low on plot, high on brain dead rushing-around-killing-things action, high on fan service (at least with the Source engine the fan service is worth it. When they tried to do it on the Quake 2 engine it was cringeworthy), and I got exactly what I expected. It didn't draw me in like Half Life 2: Episode 1 did, with characters that actually seemed to have believeable emotions and interesting histories and such, but for a simple run'n'gun frag fest I thought it was a good purchase, and worth the £12 I paid for it ($19.95 minus the preorder discount, converted to UK currency). I'll certainly be buying the next episode.

I'm downloading it at the moment. So I'll know who to blame!  ;)

As a pointer, is it worth bothering with the first Sin? It comes with Sin Emergence for free!

I'll vote when I've tried it.  ;)

Is it worth bothering with the first Sin..... Hmmm....

Good question. It only runs on the Quake 2 engine, so it doesn't look horrendouly pretty, and the gameplay is (in my opinion) about equivalent to that of Quake 2. It was one of the first games to feature locational damage, so you can do stuff like shoot weapons out of people's hands and shoot them in the foot and watch them grab it and scream a bit.

I bought it when it first came out, and back then (even after several iterations of patches) it was *horrendously* buggy. If they've fixed the bugs then i'd say give it a go at least. It is free after all.

After 5 minutes of Sin, I decided it was a sin to gaming! Sin, part two is a different kettle of fish. Not bad, it'll do till something 'must have' comes along. I must say I'm impressed by Miss Sim's bazoomers!  :dribble:  Dear oh dear, I had to remind myself it's a computer game.

Why? It used to suck in the olden days but it works pretty well now. What WAS the old system anyway?

That's your opinion and you're entitled to it  :) . Personally, i've never had any problems with Steam. There were teething troubles on release (OK, i'll admit they musta been pretty huge teeth ;) ) but i didn't personally experience those and i've never had any issues since then either.

And yes, I noticed your sig. As I said in t'other thread, is it really necessary to have both pics? Especially when the original one was so large already. A short while ago there was a spree of making new sig pics among the SoG people, and several were asked to shrink the ones they had made due to being too deep. Even your original pic looks to me to be about the same size as the ones that people requested be shrunk, without the added size of the Steam pic too.

If the site admins are OK with it, then i'll hold up my hands and apologise, but it strikes me that if they're going to ask other people to shrink newly made large sigs then they should also make the request of currently in use ones, that possibly were not noticed.

IM(not so H)O a sig should be 80 characters long by 6 lines deep, or an equivalently sized image. It used to be 80x4, but if we shrunk a lot of these images that small then the text would be unreadable.

Plus, mine is more than 80x4  ;) :P

Fair nuff :)

Yeah, WON, the World Oppenent Network IIRC. Doesn't Quake 2, 3 etc use that? Basically a series of central servers listing who was currently online in a game and what their CD Key was, so that multiple people counldn't connect with the same key at the same time.

Of course, if you had enough machines/ a fat enough pipe (say, a university), back in the day when WON wasn't too well connected, you could DoS the WON servers. Cos if the game server couldn't make a connection to WON then it defaulted to allowing all and sundry in :)

Or so I heard
