Does that sound like a fair swap?  :roflmao:

OK on to the serious question.

Looking to put broadband into mother in laws house. She lives in a non-cable area so it will have to be ADSL. She is not a heavy internet user so a basic package will suffice. She does have a BT line and number and lives in a city so exchange distance shouldn't be an issue.

So fella's what can you recommend? Pref cheap but a bit of quality thrown in won't be bad :D

Doorman

Typical Scot, wants 'cheap' AND 'quality'!

I use Firenet and they are good quality :)
don't know what you'd call cheap tho <_<  :P
what gaming does she do? :P

She's 78 and doesn't know one end of a mouse from another. Bit like Doris but older

Well I use BT and it works, not sure about price comparisons as I don't pay for it.

I assume you've checked the usual sources, //www.adslguide.org ?
I do exactly what the little voices tell me to.

PC Specs:- Black box with some fans that go whirrr, a few lights, things inside that get warm, headphones, keyboard (a clicky one), mouse (with buttons and no squeak), disks (2-off SSD and HDD) and a monitor of sufficient proportions.

Nildram.

I've been using them for over 3 years now. Service and support are excellent. UK based phone support as well.

I put the inlaws on Euro1net, crappy looking site but seems a good deal for what they needed. They haven't had any problems yet. (had it for a few months). They had good reviewss on ISP Review (when i last checked) (Euro1net on ISPReview)

Its a long contract though, I think they signed up for 24 months. Works out at £10 a month. Might be too much if u think prices wil come down in the future.

the other thing to checkout is talktalk, my bosses Dad uses it and its been good. But.. theres a 6 month waiting list for it (AFAIK). I dont know anything about Orange/Wanadoos free package, might be worth looking at.

BigFatCat

I use plus.net, £15 for a month up to 8Mb and 3GB traffic usage 1600-0000hrs. Up to 50GB outside that, hence I download during the day ;-)

Never had any real issues with them.

Cheers all - lots of stuff to look at now. Much appreciated :D

Penfold

I'ive used //www.freedom2surf.net for work and have found them superb.

No problems getting through to technical support and very set up.

The have a home package (8mb) from £13.99 per month.

However, if she's an infrequent user then, in the pipeline, pay as you go boradband is being rolled out by several companies.

One for certain that has already done it is bulldog.

another is IC24

This PAYG is what I'm waiting for for my in-laws as, like yours, they're not going to be using the net much just for booking flights and researching hotels etc

Why not try this site? It'll make a recommendation based on what you want to do, price and what is available in your area.

Just had a look. Useful site. PlusNet seems like a suitable package but has anyone heard good or bad about them?

Been using them for a while now, plus the Father in Law signed up too. They just received plaudits for their service and I've never had any real issues with them. Their support line is 0845 and they've an online call-ticket service too.
Connections are pretty fast and reliable in my experience.

If you do make the jump, let me know so I can get a 50p referral discount, I can provide a link
