Well I think we all know its possible, but why is it such a big deal?  That's the bit I'm struggling with.  It's not something I know how to do so it woudl have to be others who did it, but it's not something I have ever needed or missed when I do the DKP. It's not something I have ever needed or missed when browsing the DKP site.  So I am asking why we should divert time to add it maybe?  That sounds harsh, it's not meant to be, just asking the question so I understand why.  If it turns out to be as easy as Bob describes then I am sure it will get done, but I am amazed at the depth of feeling over a missing filter that nobody seems to have a need for!

I think I'm gonna go a bit off topic here, but what the heck - that's what I like to do ;)

Computer programming and development is both my hobby and my work - it's something I'm very pationate about.  It might just be my head that's a bit twisted when it comes to these things (as you can see in my topic about the dMw logo :P ), but that makes me notice and think about lots of stuff that not everybody normally do.
It can be programs I use, web sites I browse or technical devices I use (whatever related to something in that direction): I use them, and I can spot big or small things of various significance and think thoughts like "omg, why haven't they just added this cool feature? it's so easy and would have made everybodys life just a little bit better", or "whoa, hold the phone... who built that thing??? that sollution is just plain stupid", or similar stuff.  All these opinions are of course coming from a very (twisted  ) technologically influenced brain, and would perhaps not be of very much use to the general public.  But if I see something that could be helpfull in 1 out of 100 situations, I'd love to try and get it implemented :)

I guess it can be the same with you TL, being a certified financial advisor: perhaps you see somebodys budget and just roll your eyes and think "that could have been soo much easier by just making a few easy steps" (or whatever you financial advisors do :P).

The only reason that I actually bothered to post in this topic in the first place, was to back up Saori a bit.  It seemed that he presented a suggestion (and a pretty relevant one too if I might add), and only got hit in the face with "nope, forget it. not possible even in a million years" (this is ofc pushing things to extremes, but it's just to try and make a point).
Now I don't know anything about what lies behind this specfic system, but in general it's mostly a not too complicated sql database of some kind with simple queries to retrieve data.  And in this case it seemed like Saori had at least a bit knowledge about what he was talking about, and because of that I thought he deserved to be heard and have a bit of support ;)

But again, as usual, my posts tend to be 3 times as long as they have to be (and way out of the original topic of the thread)
I'll go to bed now, and tomorrow I'm looking forward to take down one big dragon

I'm really not sure what you're getting at here Saori.

Do you want a 'button' to filter things for you for ease? Is that it?

Well, what i had suggested to do is as follows:

1. Adding a new filter in the Top Page for selecting RG1 or RG2 members, the same place where you select to filter by class (warrior, lock, pala, etc). That will be useful to have a general balance of the progress in DKP amount in your raid group and will be easy to sort out the general members listed as RG2. Actually we have filter set for armor type (cloth, leather, mail and plate) and for class type (warrior, paladin, warlock, mage, druid, priest, hunter, rogue, shaman, unknown) (and we have shaman although SoG is alliance group, no? but under shaman we have 57 people under member status "inactive"...i dont quite understand this, is it SoG also in Horde side?) As easy as we set a filter for armor type, or class type, we can set a new filter for raid group status, belive me, is an easy sql query to implement. For doing that we only need to add to the table in the databse holding the player data, a new item called "raid status", for example, and set it to rg1 or rg2, so we can index de information according to this status. The place for inserting this new data piece will be the same place where we hold the data for each character description.

2. If we do step 1, then, when we choose to sort the info, for example, selecting "warlock" filter, we will get a list of 19 warlocks, with the folowwing tabs of information: name, rank, level, class, earned, spent, adjustment, current, last raid. If we had added the "raid status" then we will have another colum here listing "member of RG1" or "member of RG2" and we will have the chance to sort the items according to this, so we can have a better view of DKP standings within our own class type and own raid group.

Modifying the sql database and creating the new queries is a piece of cake!!

As said by tanales on the other dkp site thread there is currently a bug that resets all members information to just thier name, so even with the filter in place it wouldnt work cause information gets reset (it tends to reset between 1 and 10 persons in the raid due to some odd reason)
Aszune (Alliance):
Sokhar lv 80 (H/M) Warrior, Sokhár lv 80 (H/M) Death Knight, Beset lv 70 (NE/F) Druid, Bastet lv 70 (NE/F) Rogue, Mentu lv 70 (Dr/M) Shaman

And that is a definitive solution?? Well, personally i think, if there is a bug then the big must be fixed, what if the next thing that the malicious bug resets is the amount of DKP's from the last raid of 1 to 10 members? how do you control it? how do the system alerts of such things?

If your car resets the fuel tank every 100 km/h, wouldnt you try to fix it?

DKP site is great, but i think that in addtion of fixing this kind of stuff it can be improved....

so code boy is taking the piss out of oversexed boy...?

of COURSE girls are coded well, have you seen the bump maps? And those textures are just...moist

What I think people are getting at is, all the filters on the site are to facilitate ease of searching through different groups of people/classes/etc, surely which raid group is a top level filter like (guild->raid group->class->peni5 size->name) or somesuch.

it would be useful to some people and yes it would be a very simple sql query, as to the 'if it aint broke don't fix it' bad bad bad bad, working in Software myself for many years I know this to be one of the worst things anyone can possibly think, it leads to a lack of progression and eventually having to code for legacy stuff that never kept up (remember y2k stuff?).

any coder who says that one phrase will usually get reviled for the rest of his/her days :)

of course it would be nice for me to be able to filter out the pretend people (RG2) ;)

P.S. happy birthday to me, do i get dkp as a present?
P.P.S.  surely Nefarian should be worth more dkp than the other bosses :o

Mmm, ok, all BWL first kill bosses are worth 50 DKP each, whereas the MC bosses increased their DKP value throughout the instance.  I'd not noticed tha tbefore. I'll talk to the other officers about it.

yeah, i noticed thta, mc bosses increased dkp, and first kill = normal x 2 dkp
bwl bosses all 25dkp first kill is 50.

doesn't bother me much but no way is ebonroc same effort as nef :D but then that would imply RG was worth more as he was hard too.
