im getting 1gb of RAM when pc world opens in august/september, but i dont know what type i need. my Dad says it either ddr or ddr2  <_<
how do i find out which one it is??

What the hell does the new button to the right of "Quick reply do?"

Im thinking DDR1 , but thats not "everything " you should put into thoughts.
Doesnt your dad know what kind you need?

I suggest you have alook of what you have inside your computer at the moment.
Kingston is allways allright.

You can either look inside or try one of the following two solutions:

1. Download SiSoft Sandra (free) and install it then use it to report on what is fitted to your PC.

2. Use the "Crucial" Memory Advisor (free) at http://www.crucial.com/uk/ which will allow you to know what you need if the board is a mainstream board.

When you boot the machine up what does the POST say? If it's just a splash screen then there should certainly be some way to get get it to show the full POST instead. That should tell you both the RAM speed and whether it's DDR1 or 2.

Plus if you have any idea what CPU or whatever is in your machine that might help. For example if its more than 2 or so months old (which from the sound of things it most definately is) and is AMD then it's definately DDR1. I dunno at what point Intel shifted from DDR 1 to 2.

EDIT: Of course other people's ideas are probably easier and more accurate...

It means there is a lot of different types of memory and only probably 1 (maybe 2) will work in your board. As I suggested earlier, get a copy of SiSoft Sandra, install it, run it, go to the hardware tab, select motherboard module and run it. You will get a report on your MB part of which will tell you all about your RAM. Here is what it told me about my RAM:
