Your PC history?

Inspired by another thread regarding Lan X I got nosy:

This is my PC history:

80286 12MHz
My folks PC with 1MB RAM from Commodore and 20MB HDD

80386 16MHz
4MB RAM, no-name PC, with 130MB HDD (not really mine, but played LHX on it for ages and tried all kinds of things with the hardware)

80486 DX33
Had it for ages, learned various programming on it. 4 (later MB RAM and 200MB HDD. Played Tie fighter on that a lot. Skipped the DX2-66, DX4-100, DX4-133MHz models and saved for the Pentium.

DIY - Pentium 200MHz MMX
64MB RAM (later 128) clocked to 250MHz (woohoo, took a lot of saving!). Bought later a Matrox G400 32MB card, and really liked that card until 3D became an issue. Later added a Voodoo2 card for that. 3D cards then started to get obsolete in no-time and I felt I was wasting my money...

I did not have the money for the first Orchid Righteous when it came out, but a friend of mine had one and did we play on that PC a lot!

DIY - Dual Celeron 400@550MHz (partly recycled from my P200MMX)
Tthe famous BP6 :biggrin:, 256MB (later 512) RAM
I still have this arrangement in the basement.

PII-233 no-name laptop
128MB. 4GB. Still works, not used though. I think it can run 5 mins on battery.

P3-700 Targa laptop
384MB. 10GB. Still in use, what I use in the house to surfe on my mobile atm at outrageous prices.

DIY - Athlon XP 2000+, 1GB RAM (partly recycled from my Celeron)
Now upgraded to Athlon XP Barton 3000+, 1,25GB RAM

What is yours?

I am sure others have upgraded a whole lot more than me, but maybe just the outline, or the old ones you played tons of games on? Looking on my list, I see now that I have been really patient and done few upgrades.

1.:It had tapes in it but I forgot what brand it was.

3.:Pentium 166, loads of Carmageddon was played on this computer.
 
4.:The one I'm using now. Athlon XP2600.
 
5.:This will be the Shuttle, core 2 and so but I'm still checking sites for it.

• Sinclair Spectrum 48K Plus (the one with the non-rubber keyboard) - still in my Mum's loft somewhere along with all the games.
  
• Commodore Amiga 500.  Augmented with an extra 512K memory and an external floppy drive - also still in my Mum's loft somewhere along with the games.
  
• Packard Bell 80486 SX25 w/ a whopping 4MB RAM and 100MB hard drive.  That advanced sucker ran Windows 3.1 and not much else.  Gaming on it was a royal pain, having to juggle enhanced and extended memory configs.  In fact, my Mum was still using it until just recently to knock out the odd letter.
  
• Sony PSX (now known as a PSOne).  Was computerless for a number of years so bought a console to compensate.  I think it's in my loft, somewhere.  Or I might have given it to the charity shop during my pre-move clearout.
  
• Current rig is self-built, and has evolved up to an AMD Athlon XP 3200, nForce2, 2GB, system.  Looking to replace next year with a 64-bit solution.

Atari 400: 16KB of RAM and the best game of Defender this side of the arcade.

Amiga 500: Pretty stock as I seem to recall.

Amiga 1200: 68030 Accelerator card, 3.5" hard drive under the top, then a later hard drive via the side expansion port.

PC 1: Bought P166MMX with 32MB of RAM, soon swapped out to a P200MMX (recycled from work).

PC 2: DIY Slot 1 PII 400 (recycled) on a Soyo 6BA+III mobo (paid for).

PC 3: DIY FC Celeron 566@850(paid) on an Asus CUSL2C (paid). Then up to 1GHz PIII (recycled). I think there was a deafeningly loud Thermoengine cooler in there too. Made my finger bleed when I touched the running fan one time (around 7,000+rpm and 4M dB )

PC 4: DIY AMD TBird 1400 (I think) then an XP Barton 2500@2.2GHz (recycled) on an ABit NF7-S 2.0 (paid).

Current PC: DIY Intel 478 3GHz@3.4 (recycled) on an Epox 4PDA5+ (paid), 2GB Corsair RAM, CPU and 6600GT both watercooled.

Then I didn't own one personally for ages (about 10 years) but tended to use my mothers Macintosh Classic, my mates 286, then later my mothers Macintosh Performa [5200 or something], then the local universities 486&pentiums for weekend lan-gaming and a sega mega drive II if we're counting consoles...

Celeron 333 system, 64 pc100, 4mb SiS graphics, etc upped to 172 pc100 and viper v550 (TNT ...2 maybe?)

diy Athlon 1GHz, ECS k7s5a motherboard, 256mb DDR, Geforce2 ultra, 19" iiyama VMpro454

diy xp2400+, fx5600 128mb, 512 DDR (then 1Gb), sparkle nforce2 400, same 19" iiyama VMpro454

diy xp-m2500+, 9800pro AIW, 1Gb(now 2Gb) pc3200, asrock k7s41, 20" Viewsonic vx2025w now housed in a silverstone LC-11m s case, ready to become a HTPC

Okay I was thinking PC's but okay mine besides PC's are:

ZX Spectrum
Inherited it. Fooled around with games and music + color coding. I loved them rubber keys. Hated the tape deck. Could never get the head right.

Commodore 64
Had a C64-1 and a C64C. Played a lot! Learned some BASIC on that. Wore out a couple of joysticks. Loved my Turbo 2000 cartridge. I couldn't find a pic of it, but I came across this! http://www.dunkels.com/adam/tfe/

I had two tape decks, one tuned for each set of tapes I had so I didn't have to use a screwdriver all the time

I had the 8256 with only one disk drive. And those stupid non-standard disks that broke very easily.

I remember that. Looks like that SX could have done with a floating-point unit as well :wink:

386sx 20 - 2mb ram 80mg (hdd). I actually found this PC in a cupboard at my office and fired it up oast month - still working!

486dx 40 can't remember spec

386sx-16 with 2Mb (upgraded to 5Mb) with half meg graphics card (upgraded to 1 meg) 35Mb HDD and I eventually added a 387SX Co-Processor
 
486DX-33 with 8Mb, 100Mb HDD, 2Mb Graphics card which was upgraded by parts to:
 
486DX-4/100 with 16Mb, 100Mb HDD and 4Mb graphics card (the extra 2 meg cost over £130!)
 
Pentium Pro 200 with 32Mb, 100Mb HDD and 4Mb Graphics (<- NB GPU memory is almost as large as memory in first PC)

One of my fathers first computers - was the kind with those big 5.25" floppy disk drives.  I was too young at the time to remember any of the spesifications on it, but I remember playing Space Invaders and a game called Baby (had to catch falling babies from a burning building) on it.

IBM PS2 (80386)
Got this at my 8th year birthday.  It had a 30MB HD (on which I used DoubleSpace to get 60MB :dribble:).  I don't remember details about the CPU and ram, but I think it had at least 1 or 2 MB ram.

Pentium 333 MHz
Don't remember much details about this either.  I just knew we had it for some years, and it was heavily used for gaming (POC, various Lucas Arts, Sierra and so on).

Pentium 3 800 MHz (Dell something)
12GB HD, 64MB RAM (I think).  Was used all through High School for both working and gaming, and is now "retired" as a linux server in my mom's house's basement.

Pentium 4 2.0 GHz (Dell Inspiron 8200, laptop)
60GB HD, 512MB RAM, 64MB GeForce 440 Go Gfx Card.

Pentium Centrino 2.13 Ghz (Dell Inspiron XPS Gen2, laptop)
80GB HD, 2048MB RAM, 256MB GeForce Go 6800 Ultra
Some might wanna call this a movable desktop combuter - at least it's just as powerfull :flirty:
