Quote from: OldBloke;152313I appreciate that ranking is a big part of the BF2 scene but if you make decisions based on your ranking requirements rather than on your team's requirements - that's wrong. Not only is it wrong, it's against everything we stand for. Ranking up should be a consequence of your teamplay, not your goal.

Which is another reason why I don't go for medals and ribbons OB (though I do like it when I get a gold, silver or bronze I have to admit) - the majority of people who have put the hours I have into BF2 have most of their medals/ribbons etc, mine though is fairly empty  Duvel for example and a number of my mates love getting their medals and I think thats cool - I know they are good team players and their teamwork will benefit any team.

Though I'm not saying people shouldn't try for medals either. People play bf2 for all sorts of reasons - I don't think we should be too harsh on people who rank - horses for courses. Personally I prefer teamwork which is why I enjoy playing bf2 in OBC (we had a huge 32 vs 32 USA vs Euro OBC match on sunday which was great fun) and I like the dMw fun comps at the LANS. Its all good :woot2:

Put it this way whats more fun?

Achieving a medal on your own with no mates to tell or having worked together as a squad to defend or assault a flag or win a round by pulling together, using comms and sharing the feelings of cameraderie during and after the match.

DuVeL

Exactly, if you play alot of medic/resupply you'll end up with medals aswell. A good medic will end up on 1st rank and will get the Gold medal and you helped your team out and got points and a medal.
Getting the gold medal is only possible if you did good teamplay (or unless you were the commander and in the end get a x2).

On ranked servers: Usually starting a squad called VC&Teamwork will get you good players in your squad.

How I wish we played BF2 more and maybe even did matches...

Anyone up for forming a server roaming party? Like BF2 monday but instead we form a squad and find a server to crash. Could be both regular BF2, PRMM or PoE. We could meet on, say, X-fire and after finding a server with enough room we would log on and make a squad.

I would really enjoy a dMw squad on the PoE map "Fallen". It is an infantry only map, nothing but dense forrest. I love attacking the huts as a squad, where you would toss smoke and storm the hut after having people placed all around the hut. A medic and a resupply player would be key - and the anti-tank kit has been tranformed into a anti-personel. And the supports MG really matters. I have more than once been surprised by such lying down in the bushes, surprising a whole squad.

I've tryed setting a roaming party up once, didn't really work out.
For me it's CounterStrike CZ first, getting more matches and practices in that.

4-0 to the Euro team :boxing: made up of Charlie and Delta Companies (4 platoons in each).

The yanks beat us the year before, so this time we practiced a few weeks in advance - which is quite a feat when you have to coordinate 6 five man squads (each platoon had 1 squad). Paddy, magnus and bearbison (the guys coming to the lan) came up with the strategys for the four rounds we played the yanks. We played two games of sharqui peninsula on a UK server and two on shonghai stalemate on a US server to make it fair.

Great games, very intense but fun and so cool when at game start when you see other platoons running straight by empty helos and vehicles because they are sticking to their set plan and leaving those vehicles for the squads that they have been assigned to.

My platoon Delta 2, where given a free role, ie we went where we where needed or where we thought we could cause as much confusion and damage to the opposition, so most of the time we where behind enemy lines attacking a base or taking out their armour before they could engage ours. You can't beat big games of Bf2 :yahoo:

The normally loud yanks where pretty quiet in their Vent channel after both rounds he he, but they where gracious in defeat and said they had been soundly beaten.

Our next big match is in two weeks - Euro Charlie vs Euro Delta companies (4 platoons in each company) - 32 man a side, no vehicles on karkand and ja-la-la-la-li-bad. Should be just as fun and will be a hard scrap, they have some excellent players... mind you so do we.

Blunt, apologies, you only asked for the score and you got a dissertation LOL

Sorry I never managed to get you guys your own server slots for a sunday away - I did ask but the problem is our admin guys are very busy as are our servers - they ok'ed it in practice but then the BF2 league and the knockout cup started and they are always held on a Sunday, and in the week the servers are full or being used for platoon pracitces.

big-paddy

I might have some news on the server admin side shortly. I just need to check authority.

Back to the conversation. I agree with the teamwork approach expressed here. On the other hand earning the individual badges has allowed me to practice the different kits and understand much better the strengths and weaknesses of each. Further I have gained unlocks and I understand the plus points and minus points of each weapon. I can also counter others who use them. That is the game as it was designed.

Teamwork counts. However sometimes I love to 'have a laugh'. I have recently gotten a name for myself on the OBC server for knifing and claymoring - nice to see you the other night Ninja :) That started just for fun. I now seem to have a band of like minded individuals whenever I start a squad. Strangely we seem to get a lot of points - which sometimes wins the game. However we are just doing it for fun.

When we are not playing for fun we kick butt very seriously and yes we do play as a team with commanders, squad leaders and a plan.

What I am really trying to argue is keep the serious team mantra for the serious side of the game, competitions, and lets have a serious dose of fun in the rest of it.
