I have always liked speed runs in games, one of my favorite WoW videos is axemen's MC done Quicker video. I have done speed runs in other games among others Super Mario Bros3 and Quake3.

The contest concept is simple, run through the instances, the best times in each instance win. Scoring will be 5-3-2points for 1st-2nd-3rd place in each instance. The persons with most points after 2months will get 40g-20g-10g from me(if you want to increase the sum of the payout send an ingame mail to me with the money marked 5man conest).

There will be 2 diffrent contests. The solo sub45 contest with all instances(also ragefire chasm) before and including SM
and the duo 45-60contest with all 5man instances after SM.

Unless otherwise stated the finishing of each instance will be from zoning in to killing the endboss of the instance. In instances with wings each wing will be seen as a instance of its own(SM has 4 instances each will give 5-3-2pts total Stratholme has 2wings and will have 2x 5-3-2pts)

The constests have already started and will finish at 25th of November 23:59.
Proof of times will be done with screenshots, use ingame timer mods like CT_Timer. Feel free to post Fraps of the runs also though for simplicity please post them with 2x speed. This is largely based on trust.

The timer does not have to start as soon as you enter the instance but it has to start before you move after zoning in.

Feel free to post suggestions, point out errors or your times in this thread.

Most of the solo ones favor the rogue or hunter(vanish and feign death are more important then the stealth since stealth slows you but the other skills gets you out of combat) but there are some that can favor other classes like stockades will favor mages/paladins and locks and SM cathedral can go to any class i think. the number of pulls and how fast you can chain pull will be important there. Some of the instances all the trash can be bypassed by good movement so no stealth needed but again it is alot quicker to run through all the things and vanish/fegin then to go around.

For the 2man stuff i think stealth will not be the best thing for the higher instances while it might be the best way for maraudon and Zul Farrak but i would much rather have a healer + ranged DPS/tank in the other instances. The 2 man stuff is mostly about first making it to the end then how to do it efficently.

Nothing official yet but my best time in deadmines so far is 5minutes and 10seconds. i think i can get it below 5minutes and i think a hunter might even get it to 4:30s.

Also for those that are interested in this i would like to know if you think it should be character or person based( alts allowed or not ).

Knabbel

The Axemen doing MC in 1h 13min have that one for a long time now...realy is fast...they even wipe one time I thought.

I realy like fast instances run instead of doing 3 hours for a baron run....

I hope some will apply for it, I know I will.

Sounds like a really cool thing
If I happen to get some spare time, I might give at least some of the instances a try.  But the way it looks concerning work at school these days, I doubt I'll be able to give it too much time <_<

Wouldn't a druid with good feral/healing combination and a rogue be a pretty good team for the 2man instances?
You'll have both a good tank, some über DPS, and a healer, so you can switch around alot with different tactics for different needs.  And you have to possibility to both sneak past lots of time consuming trash

Yep, rouges and druids will have a definate advantage when it comes to skipping stuff.

Rogue Druid is a pretty good 2man team for the lower instances but they do hit some problems later on. I doubt a rogue druid team could kill any of the lvl60 instance bosses. As soon as there are adds the rogue druid team will have problems and for the easiest lvl60 instance to duo, scholomance you have to kill atleast 7bosses and clear the rooms with the bosses. For instances like DM tribute and DM east  where you need to do multible goals and relativly easy to sneak alone the rogue druid will fall behind.

If you look at the 2man videos that are already out on the net they are mostly done by priest/paladin + warrior/mage. I actually think that pally + warrior will be among the best duo groups because of survivability. I doubt any other combo could kill eranikus in ST.

The important thing to think about in the Duo competiton is complete the run first then the time. Opposite to the solo competition where you know you can finish but you don't know how fast you can finish

Edit: I forgot to at the DM runs to the list will add them later to night.

You're right, for the high level encounters DPS is far more important. The 'outlasting' strategy of the druid doesn't really work there.

A fury/arms warrior and a priest will work well, as shown here: http://aszune.xsa.ch/forum_posts.asp?TID=5727 (Amathera + Mandis doing a 45 min baron run, and they even had time to spare  ).

Warrior + pally sounds good too, but might give problems in some encounters, since melee classes can't kite.

Dajo and me prolly gonna give it a try at some point:boxing: .

Timer mod and Screenshot. Alot of trust in that method but kind of hard to expect everyone to Fraps it but Fraps of the runs would be really nice.
