*yawn* yes I know but...

Most people I know charge their phone when the battery is low. Under the perception that the battery will last longer and to stop the memory affect.

Lithium ion batteries don't suffer memory effect at all from early charging.

They can't be overcharged because they would catch fire. When they are full, the charger has to stops charging them. IE: they won't get overcharged when left on the charger.

The life of the battery is judged by the number of 'complete' charge/discharge cycles. So, if you put your phone on the charger every night, you will save the battery 8 hours of use every day, thus reducing the number of complete charge/discharge cycles it goes through and your battery should last longer.

I can't verify all what you state here, but it for shure doesn't sound like bad logic.

And it's definetly not *yawn*, as you began your post with.

This actually ****es me off sometimes, cause I got a friend who regulary, with no exception, run out of battery on his cell, making it pretty hard to get hold of him sometimes. And it's just because he always insist to wait till it's empty before he charges it again :ranting2:

I don't charge mine every night, but mostly every 3rd or so. That makes me a good margin to never run flat, and I've had the phone for some years now and can't say that I've noticed the battery becoming particulary "poorer" in quality.

About once a week for me too, I normally bung it on the car charger when I'm driving. Don't use the mains charger very often and I've got a USB charger if I need to recharge at work.

But the battery is on its way out, it will stay on for over a week, but as soon as a call is made... bwwwveeehhhh ..... it can go from 4 bars to 2 in minutes.

My biggest worry is the wife breaking down and not being able to contact me, so generally i keep it oncharge at work and it shouldnt ever run out.

current lithium ion batteries degrade over time whether you use them or not. heavier use might help them degrade faster, but they will degrade even if you just let them sit on a shelf for a year...

You are correct in saying not to worry about the memory effect, and in fact you shouldn't have to worry about it with any rela=tively recent rechargeables. I charge my phone either every few days or when it starts showing red. Battery is getting old and the indicator drops very quickly from full to empty when used heavily. Still, time for a new phone, this on'e 18 months old

Same problem for me, so i end up charging it roughly 2 times a week.

I have a nokia 6230 and usally the battery lasts over a week. I let the battery run out and then charge from empty. I heard that this is the best way of charging batteries aswell as making them last longer.

heres a nice tip:

if youve got a nokia cell and need some instant added power. write *3370# on the normal screen. your phone should restart and youlle have the backup power activated. the backup is recharged once you charge your phone

worked for me on a nokia 2100

mine has to load every 5 days or so, the torch doesn't have that much affect on it. But it is extreme handy, like when i was at the outdoor BonJovi concert in the middle of goffer park (a forrest park

) it was so dmn dark, and there where way to few light poles, and the moon wasn't so big so there we all used the torch

pretty funny to see too, if u came acros a other group who used it too

My battery lasts 2 days before it's virtually empty and needs recharging again. Brand new phone too, Sony Ericsson w810i.

How long does the backup power work for?

I have a really old Nokia 3510 (black and green jobby) and I find it runs out after 2/3 days, so I have to charge every night. But using it at download festival I ran out of battery in 2 days leaving me stranded for the rest of the say if i got lost. (lukily didn't happen).

I did get a new phone by the way but it died after 2 months, it was Blunt's upgrade, we got it unlocked then after a while it decided it would lose signal if you phoned someone and finally decided it wouldn't turn on.
