As I have been sat at home these past 4 months I have been able to follow HLSW and the logs for the servers - it's quite relaxing actually, just dipping an Admin arm into the game every now and then and following some wierd & whacky conversations!  What I have noticed however is a difference in opinion as to what Boomer is there for.  Now I may be wrong and someone might want to point me at a post to show me where we said different, but:

Boomer:
I believe Boomer is:
- the public shop window for the community
- to show them what kind of members we have
- so that we can show them how we play TCS
- to encourage and teach them to play TCS so that they can see if they like it

I do not believe Boomer is:
- a public server where only dMw have to play TCS

If 90% of the people do not play TCS then anyone playing TCS is
(a) out-numbered and in the minority
(b) going to be dead real quick because someone shoots them from behind by crossing a map boundary
(c) not showing others what TCS is about and therefore not doing dMw any favours

I believe Boomer is a TCS server.
I believe that most dMw members should have some admin powers on the public server so that they can help teach TCS.
If public players wander onto our TCS server and are not taught what TCS then how on earth do we expect to stand out from the crowd?
If we do nothing and let them play in a non-TCS style then how are they going to experience TCS?

For me it's trying to play TCS as sometimes someone uses his VC and I can't even understand what the guy (or girl) is saying.
For the rest I agree. I still reckon Fridaynights as the real TCS-nights on MeatHook though.

That's a totally separate topic and thus OT.

But nice to read that you agree with me about what I posted.

Agree with all comments.

I agree with what your saying but I don't believe we should be heavy handed in forcing visitor's to play TCS on Boomer.  We should encourage it but do we really want to start kicking people or being abusive for rushing or crossing an invisible border?

Boomer is our shop window and I would rather have us come accross as a friendly bunch of people who want to help visitors into TCS.

So for me dMw have to play TCS, visitor's should be encouraged.

I agree. However, I think the strictness should be less than on Meathook. I would prefer if we said it should be played in the ethos of TCS. Meaning that you would be able to outsmart morons even if it ment bending slighlty of the TCS invisible line in the map.

My thoughts exactly:)

It may help now that the reminder admin messages pop up (is that automatic or do you have to prompt it?)

I had to set a variable at map change to start it up but BB will be along soon to tell us it's fixed :flirty:

Well actually I dont know if it is or not until I restart the server. The problem is that we only want the adverts on boomer and not on any other CSS server so the "mani_adverts 1" setting has to go into the server coonfig file of the relevant server and has to be after the order to load the mani_admin config for that server. I have put it in the right place but as the mani config sets adverts off (so we don't spam any match servers we may produce) I don't think the ON in the server config will take until I restart and there has been people playing consistenly on the server (which is nice)

DuVeL

I saw the ads last night, good stuff and pretty clear.
I reckon they could show up a bit more though.

tonight on the server was a good example of of the public problem .. a busy server with games going on.. We did the admin thing on the server but within a few Min's and a few arguments we were left with not enough players to hold a good game

may i suggest that we don't *enforce* TCS limits unless we have enough regular players to keep a game rolling...

I'm with you 100% on this one.  It's fine enforcing TCS, if like last night you have a number of admins and dMw people on the server.  If your the only admin on, with only a few dMw players, you end up spending more time telling people off than you do playing the game, which is no fun.

TeaLeaf

It's a fine balance, but tbh imo if you are trying to get people interested in dMw then they need to see the difference.  If the experience on our server is the same as everywhere else then we do nothing for our community.  On the other hand enforcing TCS might put some people off.  But then are they the people who you ultimately want to attract?  Difficult to find a balance and I guess that we should always try our best to solve the problem and make an on the spot judgement call.

There were some frag monkeys tonight, but I find a gentle hint is enough for certain players.... I had 1, something 06, tonight who started off as a fm, but ended up saying what a great server/clan we were.

on a pubby you can't impose rules, because it's not admined all the time, but you can advise players not to stray. watch the objective etc. and most sensible players respond positively...the 1's that don't, kick/ban till they get the message.

It's either public or not:g:

I had the same thing, to bad I couldn't explain him over my VC how we play the game. Ahwell, my new headset will hopefully be there soon.
