Quote from: Gorion;176948anyways the previous argument stays 3% dodge > 1k armor @that lvl

Naturally. But there are no trinkets with a high dodge % for as far as I know. The stormpike rank 6 trinket has 2% @ 60 and I'm wearing that, mark of tyranny would still be slightly better though with it's 1089 armor and 1% dodge @ 60.

How much armor you already have doesn't have much influence on it's usefullness though, since it will always extend you lifetime by a fixed amount (yes I have prove of that; I'll post it if anyone is interested).

On the other hand, you're probably correct from a warrior's point of view. Warrior tanking gear != Druid tanking gear. We have a different purpose and different mechanics. Correct me if I'm wrong, but warrior tanking is more avoidance based then mitigation based, meaning you favor +def, dodge and parry more overall then armor by definition. So yeah, if I was a warrior then I'd probably look for some trinkets with a high amount of dodge or +def.

And Akall is correct, you can't dodge spells only melee attacks; although you can dodge melee attacks that deal magic damage (like special attacks and the melee damage of certain elementals). Spells can only miss or be either paritially or fully resisted.

Btw, if you know any TBC trinkets with a high amount of dodge let me know. I'd love to get my hands on some :flirty: .

Spells can only be resisted... Resistances and resilience give a chance to resist normal spells and critical spells, while on the other hand penetration give chance to avoid resilience and resistances of the targets.

I think.... :g:

Nope, spells can miss. What use would +spell hit have if it always hitted anyway :narnar: ?

You can read how it works exactly on this site: http://www.wowwiki.com/Formulas:Magical_resistance.

Like you said penetration reduces your target's resistance. But resiliance only reduces critical chance and damage, there is no real 'counter' stat for this.

From the page you linked :

"Mage spells are 'resisted'. All hunter effects miss."

I'm pretty sure spells (in the sense of Starfire, Moonifre, Wrath and Insect Swarm) can't miss the target... they are resisted by targets!! :D

You missed the part 'miss chance': :narnar:

Quote from: WoWWikiWhen an offensive spell is cast, the target has two separate chances to resist the attack.
First, there is a check based purely on the level difference between the caster and the target. This is referred to as the spell miss chance, and is affected by any +spell hit% equipment that the caster has. Talents which reduce enemies' chance to resist spells, such as Arcane Focus, are also taken into account by this check.
If the target is significantly higher level, the spell will usually fail completely. If the target is significantly lower level, the spell will very rarely fail. This first check is why spell casting players have such a hard time landing spells consistently on all monsters a few levels higher. In PvP combat, it is much less of a factor. A level 10 Mage can very often land polymorph on a level 60 player.
Although miss chance can be reduced with equipment or talents, it cannot be reduced below 1%[1]. What this means is that for a level 60 player in PvP, equipment "to hit" bonus beyond +3% doesn’t help. However, in endgame raiding content, as much as +16% "to hit" bonus will help since bosses are generally considered level 63 for these purposes.

But I have to admit, that the line between 'miss' and 'resist' is pretty blurry.
