I dont honestly think its a good idea... I think it would be offensive towards the ones that have contributed to the guild. If there should be a rank like that, it should be a rank you earn. And a rank one or more in guild can suggest another player to get, if they feel that player has earned it. And i dont think were quite there yet either.

Last thing we want, imho, is to divide the guild more. And i feel adding a Vet rank at this point will do just that.

Im voting no go.

I very much see the dangers that Oth and Eli point out - and to a certain extend I also agree with it. However, I think it also is wrong to not acknowledge at all those that has stuck with the guild for a long time.

I know you said we're not there yet, but if such a time comes, I think this isn't a good solution at all. I believe this will even more than a generic Veteran rank based on some simple criteria (e.g. time since joining the guild), be a potential problem source, since people might feel "left out" or something if they feel themselves that they really have done some good stuff, but nobody suggests them etc. A rank based on time in the guild is much easier, since it is a fixed limit, and everybody will get there at some point!

But I see the Veteran rank as suggested has big flaws, so I bring forward an optional suggestion:

The problem with Veteran, is that it might sound a bit too "above" the normal member. How about we try to find a less "hostile/threatening" (couldn't find any better word atm, but you know what I mean) word. We could perhaps have a rank called 'Oldie'.
This is something I just came up with, but at least my first thoughts around it is that it sounds like a fun word, it is something that I think will be understood by the members, and the word itself also very clearly states what kind of "rank" it is.

Thoughts?

Why not just call the officer rank veteran?
I agree we should acknowlege the oldest members, but this is a new era with new people as GM and officers.
We should at least give all a fair chance to earn the rank, both old or new members.
But I don't see why we have to have a rank like that at all, why isnt it just GM, officers, members, alt and initiate? What we call it doesnt matter.
And what happens then when we start raiding again? Veterans in one, and members in one?
I am still abit confused by all this, and still don't think its such a good idea, yet. But if you decide for it, that won't matter anyways.

Chevalier of the Brazen Serpent
Prince of the Tabernacle
Chief of the Tabernacle
Prince of Libanus, Royal Hatchet
Patriarch Nochite, Prussian Chevalier

Knight of the Eagle & Pelican
Knight of the East & West
Prince of Jerusalem
Knight of the Sword and of The East
Scottish Knight of Perfection

We ofcourse need some style of initiation right and we'd have assume some level of secrecy. We also get to wear dark cloaks like Ring-Wraiths.

:narnar::narnar::narnar::narnar:

Onto a more serious note rather than detailing the 33 known orders of Freemasonry; scrap the veteran thing for now.

Questions:

1. Do we wish to segregate raiders and raid officers into their own ranks in the future?

2. Do we want a guild system that only allows us to use 2 levels of officers: Guild Master and then Officers who are presently Field Marshals and Marshals. I would personally see this as very restrictive. Not meaning to be rude to the Consultants, but I don't think, simply on a theoretical basis, that they should have rights like to invite ppl to guild.

3. The only real problem I can identify with the present system is that it makes some ppl sound better than others, tbh there is only one sol'n for that - just give the normal members a more fun rank than member. We're called Silver Oak Guardians, so why not just call them Guardians? We can always use another name for Raiders (like Raider).

4. :taz:

Personally unless someone can present a very good reason for changing stuff - can we just leave it as it is for now. No-one as of yet has really stated a reason for changing the ranking structure yet other than they don't like it.

Like we lightly joked about:
gorion should be the silver oak, the members its guardian :P
And the officers, the roots?
And thanks Shep, for the enlightenment of the Freemansonry:D

I want to be  Knight of the Sun, Prince Adept :roflmao:

OT: if the 'Oldie' idea ain't that popular either, I'll just pull it back - I see the potential problems with it, so it ain't a though setback :flirty:
But for the ranks to use, I really really really think we should stick to the default Guild Master, Officer, Officer Alt, Member, Alt, and Initiate (and again, leave a few "blank" dummy ranks in between for when we at some point have to make a rank for Raid Member)! That's the names everybody uses anyhow, and I really think some of the mentioned alternatives can seem a bit silly.

The "counselors" could just be put as Officer Alt - don't see the problem with them being able to invite and such, it's all persons we (and I guess the members as well) trust. And we also need 'em in such a rank that they at least can see the officers chat (don't know how configurable that is?).
