I'm the same but replace scanner with old webcam.

I've found it to be totally reliable and it makes full use of my 4GB of memory, unlike the 32bit edition.

I use the pro version with my epson scanner because Epson couldn't be arsed making vista drivers.

Unfortunately to get vue scan to work you need to install the canoscan software, which won't install with Vista 64 . It does with some versions but not the Lide 50.

do you have the .exe that for the cannon program? if so can you zip it and send it to my email (msn on my deadmen profile).... as i have found a lot of the time its down to the setup.exe for programs that do not work not the actual program which can be easily fixed...

if you dont have this a link to the latest drivers would be great ...

i hate doing it but then i hate spending good money aswell :eyebrow:

BTW vuescan is pretty awsome aswell i use it as i have different scanners for different purposes
and sometimes forced to use other peoples this helps a i can just use one program to rule them all, i also use
Vueprint for the same reasons..

If you can fix 16-bit setup.exe files to work in Vista 64 I have a dearly loved CAD program that I cannot install because the setup.exe is 16 bit and won't run in Vista64.

Would you mind having a look at it at some point if/when you have time?

not a problem.... although BB ure a sys admin as well you can get yourself a copy of Orca and recompile ure own...

which CAD program is it?

Its called XCad. I'll have a look at Orca, didn't know what you used but I like to have a dabble

Personal experience. I had xp x64 and 64 bit vista and couldn't find drivers for some of the products i wanted to use and ended up sending them back or ending up out of pocket as i couldn't send them back. Yes drivers were sometimes available such as from Hp but they were only beta drivers not drivers that were stable or had support if things went wrong.

Things may have changed but on regular occasions i see Wandy from PC Zone's magazine saying that to have a *rock solid* system you need to go 32 bit. With 32 bit i am able to locate files quicker without trying to search two program file locations for files x86 and x64. Besides 64 bit isn't utilised yet and we still haven't finished utilising 32 bit systems. Few programs are 64 bit enabled and the amount of reinstalls my friends have encountered from having 64 bit issues is endless.

But that doesn't imply that 64bit is less stable. I agree that there are driver issues but there are for 32 bit vista as well (BBB's webcam worked in XP but Logitech won't supply drivers for any flavour of vista)

I find 64 bit perfectly stable, there are some app crashes but they seem to be app related and developers have released patches that address the issue so I'm happy with 64bit and being able to use all of my memory (Photoshop before you ask

a full year after buying it i finally got round to installing vista x64 home premium last night

I originally Had major issues with the install hanging on a blue screen. Played about trying different fixes but in the end gave up
but since getting vista pre installed on my dell laptop, i decided it was worth another crack. and to my shock it went straight in :g:
Only thing i can put it down is a new sound card that was installed between attempts.
other than that, and new memory and cpu the system is exactly the same
But either way its working now
so no big deal :yahoo:
