I'll be interrested in the results.

I've only let it run for 5% of a unit... it was looking like under 8 hours for a half million unit job.

PS3's rule, even though they have just been launched the PS3 is now crunching 3 times more data than everything else put together

If you've got a PS3, then Dead Men Folding needs you! :flirty:

Actually at a fraction of the number of cpus its more like 4 times :-)

I'll see about starting up mine folding again.  I've read in some forums of people who have left theirs folding every spare second for weeks will no ill effects.... I just worry as I thought CPU Transistors only had so many flops they could perform in a life time and leaving it working full belt on folding 24/7 sounds like a good way for ware and tear.... or am I blowing smoke out my butt on this one?

yup, they do have a life. Around 10-15 years useage. The only bit to back this up is from the overclocking part of wiki; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Overclocking#Disadvantages_of_overclocking

QuoteThe lifespan of a processor is negatively affected by higher operation frequencies, increased voltages and heat. However, overclockers argue that with the rapid obsolescence of processors coupled with the long life of solid state microprocessors (10 years or more), the overclocked component will likely be replaced before its eventual failure. Also, since many overclockers are enthusiasts, they often upgrade components more often than the general population, offering further mitigation of this disadvantage.

I've read on the standford uni site they'ev got a lab of PS3s running 24/7 with no issues so I've had mine running the last few days... its on its 5th unit, each unit has been about 500,000 steps.

I've also been on their forum and asked for the cpu throttle on the ps3 version (like with the windows version) as setting it to 90% greatly reduces the heat.

Stryker, that's some amazing folding with one system.  Over 500 points per day average! :worship:

DuVeL

Nice, I've still got several computers up and running and keep an average of 300-400 points per day.
Survivor of LAN V, VI, VIII, IX, X, XII, XIV, XVI, XVIII, XX, XXIV, XXX, XXXII, XXXIV and XXXVI so far...

[QUOTE]Cheesepuff...A cyborg is sent from the future on a deadly mission. He has to kill Ninja_Freak, a young Man whose life will have a great significance in years to come.Ninja has only one protector - DuVeL - also sent from the future. The Terminator uses his exceptional intelligence and strength to find Ninja_Freak & attempt to terminate him.

Since then I've added a few PCs too.  The standford boys doctor the points depending on the complexity of the work so although my PS3 is on its 14th 500,000 step unit I'd imagine its not worth the kings ransom in points that you'd expect..... time will tell.
