I've never played CS outside dMw and still quite new at it. I picked up the most from DuVeL I think, aiming and especially locating by sound. After I bought the SB X-Fi the positioning with headset is really, really good when the card is set to game mode. When I see other people play, most just rely on, well, the tricky mind game stuff, as we all do. Where could he be, did he go the other way, if I go here I can see both directions and cover my back etc.

My question is this: How much do oyu guys use sound? I see a few people like me, that rotate to locate. But, I see many ppl play, where I, when watching them, have already located the enemy, but they don't seem to notice, when talking about sound. Is it because the X-Fi card is good, because others use speakers, don't rate it much etc - or what? :g:

I use sound a lot, that's why I tell people to stop running around like headless chickens when we're defending the bomb/site. :flirty:

With a good surround sound headset you can tell exactly where someone is without needing to see them.

Bastet

A lot, which is also why i sometimes tell ppl to stop mindless bantering via the game comms, if you just want to talk to one another set up a TS or Vent server so you dont jabber through other ppls sound locating :)

Sounds is very very useful - you can hear a reload-sound and jump around the corner knowing your enemy cannot fire back just yet, you can hear those (annoying!) little tin cans and barrels getting bumped. Typically you hear someone before you see them and it can be good for pre-guessing a rush or estimating numbers (quite easy to hear if two+ players make noise at the same time etc.

ditto. I've got some sort of OEM Audigy2. Maybe it's Creative's EAX that helps more?

Sound is my friend, can't play without a decent headset really.
For the rest as the others typed.

I have a X-Fi Fatal1ty Pro soundcard and a Speedlink Medusa 5.1 Headset. EAX is always on. How much do I play by sound? Well, at least 85% of my game is based on sound. I don't know how many times I have been accused of cheating when I have started shooting before I turned a corner and killed someone wearing clogs.
Also I try to use sound to my advantage. For example if you roughly know where the T is when you are about to defuse I throw a flash and then start defusing. By doing this the sound you hear at the start the defuse is hidden by the flash sound. Most of the time the Ts never stick their head out to check if I am defusing as they didn't hear me start ...

Sound combined with radar is the key to doing well on any server. I do believe I have covered this in the advanced tactical skills section (available for Bravo and higher members). :flirty:

I don't use sound i just shoot:narnar:

Sound is an important thing but it is up to you how to use it.

T-Bag

I use sounds loads, I've never liked headphones, but I've learnt how to use speakers to the same effect. Running, jumping switching weapons, pins on grenades. If I hear this I call enemy spotted before I spot them, so I've not pressing buttons while trying to kill.
I also use shadows, it's silly how many times when I'm specing I spot the enemy long before they do.

Just a quick question, how do most of you use your grenades? Personally when I see someone I take a few shots at them find partial cover and lob a grenade at them, HE, Flash (or smoke hoping they think it's a flash) and then try and mince them.

If I hear more than one person I tend to lob the nade into the area, and coordinate it so I move into sight right after it blows up, or as it blows up if I am out of explosion range.

Jewelz^

i use to have headphones, but they broke and now im stuck with a massive pair which i hate! so i only wear them for matches, which is why i have a mic in matches

But i do play better with the hf on :)

Lee

I use the sound a lot, but unfortunately most the time on the server there is talking going on so i can't fully focus on it. Reactions are more important than anything and hand-eye co-ordination.

Sound is very very important to me. I too, notice that people just cover 1 spot without listening very well, while paying attention to the sound is so important. I dont think I could play without a proper headset ever again.

Eternaluk

I use sound all the time, it is one of the essential things in Css. Couldn't play without it.
