Coaching on Boomer

We believe that we could improve how we introduce new players to TCS. We want Mani admins and Charlies to help us grow the community and improve our public server. We want you to help us coach new players on Boomer. Here is the strategy:

• When a new player joins make sure we welcome them. For example have a bind that say "Welcome! Type MOTD for server rules and enjoy your stay." or something along those lines.
• Next step would be that you should act as coach for the first few rounds. Just saying "hey if you have some questions on the rules just ask mate" over chat or VC will help a lot. This will also pinpoint possible "trouble makers" at an early stage, hopefully resulting in less disruption of the game. This will help all admins to do a good job.
• You need explain WHY we play the way we do. Sure the rules gives you the outline of it but emphasis on teamplay and tactics need to be conveyed and explained. Use the time when dead to talk to the new players. We have played by these rules for more than 6 years now and we will not change them just because they joined.
• We need to make sure that those players that return register on the forum and becomes integrated in the community. If you recognise a name make sure the feel welcomed back on the server. Add people to your friends/x-fire list and invite them back if you think they seem ok for our community.

Now this is mainly directed at Mani admins but we expect all charlies to help out. The idea is to promote our style of gaming and grow as a community.
 
If someone starts coaching someone let him/her handle it as much as possible.

This is a great idea and would be most helpful.

Now this is mainly directed at Mani admins but we expect all charlies to help out.

It might be an idea to put a similar post on the Bravo section, maybe not as detailed, but suggesting that they welcome new players and especially returning players...nothing too much because it'll flood chat.

I think this is a great idea.

I particularly like the standard welcome message along the lines of

"Welcome! Type MOTD for server rules and enjoy your stay."

I must make a bind key for that.

I do think that people do make efforts to welcome and educate new players however it is hard to moderate a server full of random pubbies.
