Need some advice. . .

Hey Guys, I've only recently (like for 2 days), been using Photoshop CS3. I thought a good way to practice and get started was to create a signature for our forums.

Take a look: (Bearing in mind this is my 1st attempt and I know they aren't gonna be fantastic).

This is kinda a work in progress and am thinking of adding "TCS" or "-=[dMw]=-" somewhere. But which colour scheme do you prefer? Any other advice is greatly appreciated. Like should I change the text or move it around e.t.c.?  

And if you look below you can see where I have sloppily cut out the ninja character:



Would someone be able to give me a tip on how to get rid of those yellow sections around the sheath and the blade? They are from the old background the pic came from. (They are also noticeable on the signatures above).

Go with whatever you like, I like the third Ninja pic down, but hey, that's just me!

I'm not very experienced myself, but I think I would go carefully around the sword hilt with whatever colour you want as your back ground. (I.E Behind the sword, I'm sure there's probaly a better way to do it though. ;])

Hmmm, well considering your new at it, they arent that bad. I think what you should think about in the future is blending the character into the background, adding detail and a border. Im sure you will get there soon.

went back and messed about a lil bit with the background colours/textures again (although not very noticeable). Got a bit stuck with creating a border, ah well may add to laters. What I got so far is below.
