Gmail spam problem

I have 4 e-mail addresses forwarded to my gmail account, in addition to the actual gmail address. Two of the addresses have always received a lot of spam mail. However, this has never been a problem, as the gmail spam filter has worked perfectly, perhaps only missing one mail a month or something like that.

That is, is has worked great until very recently. In the last 2-3 weeks I have noticed a severe increase of the amount of spam the filter doesn't catch. Only yesterday, I got 5 mails withing 15 minutes, and they all ended up in my inbox. I always keep reporting the spam mails that get through, but haven't noticed any improvement...

Anyone else experiencing the same?

Not at Gmail, but at work we get spammed to death lately :sad: seams to come in waves lately, and these last few weeks where bad :sideways:

The spam must be fooling Googles spam filters. Spammers always look for clever ways to trick filters. It's a bit like virus writers and anti-virus vendors. Sort of cat and mouse. Google should close the hole in their system sooner or later.

Not really an easy task, since almost all the spam mail come from different domains.

I just find it very strange, that all out of a sudden, the gmail spam filter has been remarkably worse... And it's darn annoying :angry:

I bet it is the pdf-spams. The mails themselves include nothing the filter catches, but there is an annoying pdf-file attached with it instead? I have a good server filter as well, but these started getting through.

At my Gmailaccount I allways get alot of spam but it never goes to my inbox...

I have noticed a few of those, yes, but it's not nearly enough to explain the sudden change. A rough estimate just out of my head would be that max around a third of the mail that doesn't get caught by the spam filter is of the kind that contains nothing but a pdf document...

Almost nothing of the spam that gets through are to my actual gmail account though, but to two of the other addresses I have forwarded to it. Not that it should matter though...

Well, since gmail filters work as usual for you, and Bob saying it is a problem with the other two accounts as well, then I would guess that the spam loads has just increased. The other mail addresses must have ended up on a spam list somewhere...?

My Gmail is blocking all my spams as usual, there are more of them in the folder that I'd expect (marginally), but none getting through. My Hotmail on the other hand...(and before you say anything about hotmail accounts...)
I've had my hotmail account for over 7 years (maybe longer but back in the day you had to clear your emails because it was a small inbox so can't tell) and all that time been personalising the junk filter and for the last 2 years I've had very few if any spam get through. And in the past month or so I've had about 15 and they're all textbook spam selling viagra etc. I think spam is just going through a boom at the moment.
