There's been an email about a reported post (which you will have too)..... however I see no other senior admin online atm.

Noiw Hektor complained about the thread but out of the whole thing I find HIS post to be outrageous. I really can't see anything wrong with Freestyler's post. OK perhaps the similies are out of order? But you can't penalise the guy for saying he's proud that he served in Iraq can you? He's not exactly celebrating the death of Iraqis.


I think Hektor's comments are totally out of line and have removed them accordingly. To compare those people serving in Iraq with the Nazis goes beyond the pale and takes the discussion to an unappetising personal level. I just hope he doesn't see it as  racist or whatever.

according to international law, the irak war isnt legitimized and those who support this war make themselves culpable.
we are thrown back hundreds of years, because now the fist law is leagal and not the international law.
millions of people died in this war so far and even more people are sick and homeless.
the reason for this war was enrichment; enlargement of the economy by kontrolling the oilresources.
you said youre proud of what you did there?
well, i guess most soldiers are proud of what they did, no matter what and how cruel it was. the romans, the mongolians, the nazis... they were all proud of their actions...
you see i dont want to abuse you, but you posted this thread in BANTER and you kid around about a bloody war.
in my opinion this is more than inappropriate.

Tricky. He does have a point albeit a small one, that of posting in Banter. But where would have been appropriate? Reading Free's post again it was an innocent, young man's account of what was obviously a momentous period in his life. If a man can't be proud of doing his duty then we're all scuppered.
On balance I'd say Hector's post was a tad over-emotional and springing from an understandable German reticence for war. Maybe he'd like to edit it.
On the other hand there's a danger of blue pencilling anything we don't see eye to eye about. My inclination would be to let it ride. Freestyler can fight his own battles (no pun intended) but keep a beady on it to make sure it doesn't escalate to an actual shooting war.

He does have a point - I'm sure many people here disagree with the war. That's why I phrased my edit as carefully as possible (I was so close to leaving it for another admin lol).
 
And also remember it was Hektor that reported the post in the first place - I wouldn't have gotten involved otherwise.
 
I did try to carefully point out that the issue with his post was not the sentiments about the war - but more the fact that he got personal with it. I'm very proud our our Military and they're doing a great job in tough circumstances.
 
Either way this is all now moot as I notice that Hektor has now deleted my edited post and I received this PM.

I have to give the guy credit for a mature response. He could so easily have played the race / religion card (not that I know his race - or religion).
