Bump. What's that all about? What does it mean, bump? I've asked one of the finest computing brains in the land and all he said was "Dunno Ron, I just seen it and thought nothing about it". Yet he mada a post saying 'Bump!' FCS!

omg ron,

ppl "bump" the topic so that it goes to the top of the forum to get noticed more.

Sheepy appears and begins to stroke my head. According to his slurred drunken speech I am "lovely and like a fuzzy felt". Thankfully he soon leaves and passes out somewhere. [/quote]

It means to readdress an issue after an unsatisfactory or dilatory response

i.e I asked you all to reply to this post........and you didn't. So I'm asking again.

It's a Microsoft Geek Speak term from the 1980's no less. As Sheepy states it also has the effect of punting the post to the top of the forum, so as to get it noticed. Usually due to no one responding to it in the first place.

Whatever's gone wrong it's not my fault.

Ron - Posting any message to a thread will 'bump' it to the top of the list of forum threads.  Hence, 'Bump' in a post on it's own doesn't add any real value to a threaded discussion - just makes it more visible.

Often used with annoying frequency by the pre-pubescant when they haven't received an answer within five minutes of posting a demanding technical question on a busy forum board.  When their post drops off the bottom of the list, they post 'Bump' to their own thread ad infinitum, just so it will shuffle to the top of the list, and somebody will hopefully read it, again, and again, and again...

Thank you Messrs Smilodon and Cadaver for replying with answers that were clear and concise. Not to mention a certain degree of respect for their elders. Unlike some other respondents.
A Twat, see me later. (do they still say that? Used to fill me with dread)
