Question regarding this:

I tried some time ago. Had at the time (and still have) Photek X8 (think that's the one at least - it's the last version that contained Grid), and also some other personal favorites.

The "problem" I had with WowAceUpdater was with all the add-on packs that are included in Photek (like ORa2, Pitbul and some more I don't remember). In Photek, not all of the add-ons from the packs are included, so when I ran the updater, I got all the remaining add-ons from those packs, resulting in nearly a doubling of add-ons.

So, question: is there a way to make the updater only update those add-ons you have installed, even if some of them are parts of bigger add-on packs?

Yep.  Just click the option.  Likewise you can also update only the addno itself or the external dependencies too.

I have used this for 8 months now without any problems whatsoever.

ive lost faith in this already, it caused me a couple of hours extra work coz my UI complatly messed up so i had to re do it all

Wowaceupdater updates nothing in the SavedVariables folder, so all addons keep their settings.  It simply updates the addon cores and dependencies.  I use Photek like you do Sheepy and it does not affect my UI at all.  I struggle to see how a UI could be messed up at all by core updates when your savedvariables folder is completely untouched.

it somehow overwrote photek! put me back to a standard UI with my addons the same.

but im happy now got everything working fine. only thing i need is an addon to show me the cords my location as this really helps when levelingand mind seem to have disapered.
