omg - triple post :norty:

Long story short - I'm up and running gpu folding with new card ....

BFG GTX 275 OC 896 MB

....on a oc'd 3.6 GHz c2d E6850 with Raid 0 hdds

Won't be running cpu folding on this machine.
Still CPU folding on another 3.0 GHz pc.

Still on the first wu, but looks like it will do 7-8,000 ppd (about twice the 8800GT) :taz:  Like the 8800 GT, it runs about 82 C when folding - quite warmer than the ATI 4850 that only hit about 60 C.

Figured my system was 2 years old and in need of some improvements - so I went with a Thermaltake Black Widow 850W modular PSU.  Long evening switching everything out (first time replacing a psu).  Scary when I realized I wasn't sure where the 2 connectors from my Raid 0 hdds fit into the 4 SATA sockets on the mobo ..... afraid I'd wiped the hdds when I  got "no operating system"....... Switch conncections ........ "Raid error" ......... Switch connections ........ "no operating system"...... got smart (ha) and entered the raid config and set the Raid config to match the sockets ......... we have lift-off

nice one ed :thumbsup2: i have a gtx 275 and get around 7,000 ppd ( if run 24/7 which i rarely do) mine ran around the same temperatures in my old case but in my new one temps have dropped to 78 C max, but then again my card is not clocked ( YET !!):norty:

yeah my CoolerMaster case has the psu on the bottom - right under the graphics card - so gpu ambient temp of 63 C is prolly fairly high. Glad to hear my temps not way out of line. Not that I'm gonna to replace my full tower CoolerMaster Cosmos, but what's your current case?

My GTX 275 was OC'd out of the box - it's what they had in stock locally.  Ever use RivaTuner?  Right now, I'd be a bit timid to oc it myself - RivaTuner looks scary .... :eyebrow:

Hope to have a c2d GTS 250 running also within a week :)

have just installed my rig temporally into a silverstone fortress

it has the psu under the gfx card aswell, but am working on a mod for it that will
compartmentalise it ( is thats a word ? )  and have a extra fan blowing cold air onto the gfx intake fan.

my last card bfg 8800gtx was oc'd out of the box to so haven't played with rivatuner yet but have read that the gtx275 clock's to
gtx285 levels quite easily so once the mod is up and running i might just have a play :norty:

Thulsa Doom

Just installed the SMP part and GPU part on my new PC.
GPU is really fast compared to CPU.

Running on Phenom II 955, GTX260.

Hey Thulsa Doom, glad to hear you're back in business ..... but I noticed I was closing points on you and no points showing yet for you :g: Any probs getting going??

I'd be curious about the ppd for that GTX 260 - that was the card I was first thinking of getting.....

delankster - here's a link to a great review/benchmarking of the BFG GTX 275 OC that includes a good comparison on the overclocking.  I might have to check out the utility they used .... EVGA Precision Graphics Tuner.  The link is to the page on Temps/power consump/OC, but there are quite a few other pages on the dropdown menu near the top.......

Might be a help when you get to OC your card :)  They compare quite a few 275 benchmarks to many other cards. From the review, 82 C under heavy load is par for the 275 OC and in a healthy range.  Clever adding the extra fan though mate - any extra cooling will prolly keep it living longer.

gpu folding on 3 pcs now....

BFG GTX 275OC 896 MB (8200 ppd)

ATI Radeon 4850  (2000 ppd)

GTS 240 (5500 ppd)

The ppd are the rate each folds on a typical WU when pc is otherwise idle.  So theoretically, could do as much as 15,000 ppd.  The GTS 240 is in my son's new pc that interrupted my Thursday race to sign Fed-Ex delivery

right got the new rig running now :D

i5 750 @ 3.0 Ghz 4Gb ddr3 cpu folding (on stock cooler, will clock it more when i get bracket for my Thermalright Ultra-120)

gtx 275 896 MB Gpu folding

not sure if it'll make much diiference but 4 cores has to be better than 2 right ?
even if it doesn't should ease the load while multi tasking :)
