On Boomer the balance of the teams is generally managed by the admins but the following still applies at map change and when you first join the server.  On MeatHook people should use common sense and swap when needed but please let people know in chat that you are swapping to prevent more than one person swapping at the same time.  It's usually a good idea for one of the players nearer the top of the scoreboard in the winning team to swap as this has a better chance of balancing the game.

When joining the server check the teams prior to joining.  Look at the score and the amount of players in each team and then join the team that needs a player. Of course if you are among the first to join go to "your" team (swap if necessary).

A guideline:

Teams are even in numbers and score is even (0 to +2) then join CT on DE and CS maps.

Teams are 7 vs 5 but team with 7 is losing by up to 3. Join the team with 5 players (swap if this causes unbalance further in the game).

Team are 7 vs 5 but team with 7 is losing by more than 3. Join team with 7 (swap if this causes unbalance further in the game).

Swap if the teams become unbalanced during the game. Say "swaps" in admin chat so the admins know e.g. Dr Sadako: swaps.

Keep an eye on the score board and look at it before each round ends to see if you need to swap to balance the teams.

Thank you whitey for posting.

may i add something:

Plz don't select auto select, because that function mostly doesn't puts you in the correct team, take the extra 3 seconds to press tab, to see the actual score and folow whiteys steps.

If you really are unsure, do what I do and spectate then ask. :) I usually do that in case team balancing has been tried.

Something else I do is when the score is 6 all, I will spectate so as to not screw with the sides. 9 times out of 10 its a really good round to watch.

Good post whitey.

Something to consider when re-arranging teams might be to "trade" certain players between teams, as opposed to simply giving the losing team an absurdly large numeric advantage.
For example, teams are 8 players each, one team has an obvious advantage (could be a CT/T-biased map, more skilled players on one side, etc.). So instead of just going with the usual "first to die swap" untill the, until then, losing team ends up having 11 while the others have to do with 5 and simply get stampeded, we could maybe swap one of the winning team's better players for one of the losing team's guys that isn't doing so well. That way we might to able to somewhat balance the teams without letting the numbers get out of hand.

Something I've noticed over the last 3-4 weeks (or more) is the tendency for alot of the better players to be in the same team, and that team is clearly stronger as suggested by the scoreline, but I don't see them swap over to balance things out.
Once or twice I've asked if one could swap and the answer was NO (an OK answer to start with but after 2-3 times gets a bit wearing).

Glad you put this post up Whitey (one of your better ones:))

I think that's what I was saying in this part :)

Good post.
Last Friday I did type about the teams being uneven. Other side was winning with 6-0 and having 2 people more. I commented if it wasn't time for someone to swap.
Lateron in the evening the side I was on was winning, we did say first to die swap but none died. Then we got a comment from a player from the other side; DuV, now when are you going to swap?
I told him that none of us had died and we allready said someone had to swap over VC's.

My :2cents:;
I have to say that I think the admins should say if people need to swap (and who needs to swap) and keep an eye out on the score a bit more.

EDIT; Also people that join on the server should check the score a bit more. As Jamoe said, join spec, ask and have a bit of a look.

On Boomer, I agree.  But on MeatHook we're all mature level headed individuals  and it shouldn't need an admin to tell people when to swap (but we will if needed).

This did happen on MH several times, not only last Friday.
Lately I'm only playing Boomer early Friday-evenings and then off to MH.
I must say that the only one that seems to swap alot is Sadako.

Bumped as a reminder to people that they should do their bit to help even out the teams when playing on Meathook.  Lets try not to have too many of the better players on one team as it's not as much fun playing 10 v 4 and still losing :D

Please read the first post in this thread for some tips on when/how to swap.
