Hey, most of you have probably already heard me moaning about it on the server, but I've been having problems for a while with the Voice Comms on CS:S - whenever anyone uses the comms, I get serious lag. Apparently Sulky had a similar problem? Also, it's not just CS:S - it's Steam in general, with HL2: DM, CTF & all the other online mods I play having the same problem.

 If anyone has any suggestions as to how to fix this, they'd be much appreciated, as I've had this problem for a while now.

 Thanks =]

Maybe it could be just old regular steam, maybe one of there improved updates no doubt :rolleyes:, have you made any changes since it was last working, i.e hardware, software? could be something pulling on you resources, but just a guess really,

Good luck though

Windows settings can sometimes change back.
Check mic-volume and mic_boost
Remember, if you put on "voice_loopback 1" in console you can hear yourself back when playing CSS.
This way you know how your comms are.
"voice loopback 0" and it's back to normal

Well, haven't made any changes since it was last working, nah, but I think it started when the Community Beta went live (Long time ago, yeah.). Might have something to do with that :S.

 @Duvel, not sure how that'll help the lag (unless you mean the boost could be causing it?), I can hear comms fine until there're 3-4 people talking at the same time (gets a little jumpy, ofc). Also, I don't have mic atm (:'() as mine broke and I haven't had the time to get a new one.

 @Blunt, ... Can't argue with that logic.

Well ive had serious issues with my coms since community stuff launched too, but mine ive narrowed down to a codecs issues, but no way to solve so far.

But throughout my tweaking of my coms settings, i found a setting which sets the allowed bandwith used by coms, maybe that could solve your issue. Cant recall it as of now, but ill look into it tomorrow.

Oops, don't put up replies late in the night.
Read VoiceComm-problems and didn't read further...

Blob-file, delete it and restart Steam? Who knows.

It's not really any of my business cause I'm still a newbie here :g: but....

To avoid voice comms issues most clans get their own Ventrilo or Teamspeak server.  This server should be on a different internet connection altogether.

If voice comms were turned off and people invited into the public area of a Ventrilo or TS server it would save so much on bandwidth.  From memory, each voice comms connection can be anything from 10kb/s to 30+ times that by 20 users with possible Steam related issues and well...you get the idea.

You used to be able to get ventrilo AND TS servers for download for FREE  and install on a PC.

Bastet

dMw have a vent and two TS servers, but for boomer (and MH most of the time)the public voice chats are preferd, as non clan members do not have the details.

Servers are mostly used during matches, by SOG, and by the dMracing wing :)

We did look at this before but the problem is switching channels depending on what team you are in.  It's no good having one big channel for tactical play.

sorry for the delay in getting into this thread as i didnt see it, anyhow i get serious stuttering in the game when the comms are used, the more ppl that speak the worse it is, but its only on cs:s cause i play bg2 (hl2 mod) online and get no lag at all same with tf2 no lag. Also i copied my steam folder to my laptop so its identical to my main one and there is no lag on the laptop. I changed my soundcard drivers and cs:s still stuttered, but now also bf2 as well. i think i might pull my s/b audigy out and try the on board card

I came into this world with nothing,
through careful management I\'ve got most of it left.

Are all our servers on the same physical Internet connection?  Just wondering whether using voice just tips things over the edge for that connection that's all.

The CS servers all run on one NIC, the BF2 server runs on another separate NIC. The LFS server is on a separate physical server. Forum/website is on yet yet another server.

I don't think it is a bandwidth problem or we would all be experiencing it.

Jabbs

Different NICs but same Internet connection?  Probably your right though...it was a long shot
