Just contacted CCL Computers to find out where my wheel is and they said they are out of stock until mid feb! I ordered the thing on 14 Jan...

The same thing also happened with dabs!

Can one of you guys reccomend another wheel as good as the formula FX (logitech) or a good honest retailer? budget around £40

Cheers:ranting2:

PS. are the Microsoft Sidewinder Steering Wheel any good? (tons on ebay)

I've STILL got a spare sidewinder in the loft. It was a reasonable wheel before I replaced it.

I'm quite happy with my DFP, if only I could use it properly. £70 new though, and not much less via eBay either.

Um, what about here?

Are you going to tell me horror stories about my wheel :(

Sorry, but yes I am. I offered the Saitek to my brother-in-law (for free) and he tried it out on my PC. He bought a G25 instead.
I had nothing but trouble with it losing config and became an expert in reinstaling drivers. Dont be alarmed at the free play in the wheel mount, its normal. The rubber grips on the wheel disolve after a few weeks and its only got 180 degree lock to lock. The only area where it betters the G25 is in the clamping mechanism. Nevertheless it did allow me to compete until I coughed up for a G25. Good luck !

Zootoxin

Can't understand why it has such good reviews all over the net??
maybe the firmware has been updated since then.(Hopes)

Oh, well its got to be better than a mouse :)

I had a cheap Saitek wheel when I started racing and it was ok-ish, crap self centering and vagueness around the center , I weaved about a lot on the straights. I saw a comment on the Lfs forums that someone made saying if they wanted to go racing they used a Logitech Momo, if they wanted to go boating, they used a Saitek, I went out and bought a Momo and started winning races.

I want another wheel as the Momo is wearing out it's plastic bearings and the pedals are poo, but don't want a G25. I have thought about making my own wheel and pedals but I think that's taking it a bit too seriously.

Zootoxin

Well if its gonna cost me 200 quid to be competative then I guess im not gonna be competative.

Plus I have brought it now so it will have to do.. wish me luck

BigFatCat

I think the equipment makes little difference to how competitive you are. A cheap wheel in a good driver's hands will still beat a G25 driven by me.

The wheel is the only way to race with, anything else really isn't right. Well, to my mind anyway. I'm not having a go at mousers or keyboard jockeys: You play how you like.

Yep, as BFC said. It could well be a big improvement in your driving...even if it would be cheap. At least it must be better than nothing. Just give it some time that you learn to use a wheel.

The Moose

Really , the DFP is the best lower budget wheel by a long shot.

I still use my 5 year old Sidewinder mind you, which works as well as the day i bought it.
A good 2nd hand Sidewinder (USB only btw) is a fine cheap choice.
