Football enthusiastics probably know this. Exactly 50 years ago, February 6th, 1958, was a sad day for football. The airplane carrying Manchester United football team ("Busby babes") failed at takeoff from Munich airfield hitting a building and bursting into flames. Among the dead were 8 players, 3 team officials and 12 other people. This team was considered to be one of the top teams at the time and it had many English national team members.

Players died:
-----------------
Roger Byrne, defender
Geoff Bent, defender
Eddie Colman, defensive midfielder
Mark Jones, defensive midfielder
Duncan Edwards, defensive midfielder
Liam Whelan, midfielder
Tommy Taylor, forward
David Pegg, forward

It has been said many times Duncan Edwards (age 21 at the time) alone would have become the England's best ever player (to this day) and his skills and tactial sense have been praised by many people like Bobby Charlton (who himself survived the same crash).

DuVeL

Mhhhmmzz, they were speculating on the match of the Dutchies if that was the reason the goalie (Edwin van der Sar) was dressed in completely black.
