Blunt

I posted a link earlier with the title "fun with Mentos"

It got a few laughs, which was the intention, and then it got a couple of adverse reactions.

I was prepared to defend my posting of such a clip, but unfortunately the thread seems to have been deleted.

The last thing I wish to do is create any problems, but I would've appreciated an opportunity to justify my posting the link, and at least to have had the right of reply.

Hmm, never got a chance to see it, but I expected it just to be mints and coke with fountains of foam or the jackass type stuff trying to blow up their intestines.

Now I'm curious.

Dr Sadako

I don't know who moved the thread to the compost corner but reading it I do understand why. Reading the quotes.

Quote from: Gh0st Face Killah;223894Sorry but thats just wrong. Violence towards women isn't funny no matter what the context.
Quote from: Bastet;223897I am with him, not amusing.
Quote from: T-Bag;223910Whatever happened to equal rights? You sexist. Women campained for years to get the right to be beaten like men and you're living in the dark ages*

* I don't actually condone beating women (unless they've forgotten to get dinner on the table by the time you get home - too far?), I'm just backing up the "lighten up" crowd

I was the one who moved it.  I watched the clip, read the thread.  On balance I decided to move it to compost corner.  Blunt, you did not create problems, so no hard feelings, I just thought that it was probably better not on the forum this time.

Personally I do not agree with GFK's reaction, otherwise most of TV would be banned on the basis that if it's wrong against women then it must also be wrong against men and that's pretty much 100% of all known TV.  So I guess I kind of agree with T-Bag's comment there.

Bastet's comment - I sort of agree with - I simply did not find it funny, not in an 'oh god that's awful' kind of way, just an 'it did not make me laugh' kind of way.

I am not against violence on our screens, but in this case it just seemed to stray the wrong side of the line whilst failing to provide either amusement or have a serious point to make. I am however quite happy to have the point brought up in a debate post maybe in the 'Serious' section?

Having now seen the clip and seeing the general direction of the comments I agree with you TL.

I laughed at the clip and took it as what it was obviously meant to be, a parrody of a real Mentos advert and didn't see a problem with it, but having seen the comments that Sadako has quoted above and the general varied flavour of humour in our multi-cultural community, the comments and their interpretation could have easily turned quite nasty and well outside its original intent.

The clip itself was funny and harmless, if you interpretted it as it was meant to be seen and in the spirit that it was posted.
