Today I did something stupid. Its my fault, and I feel so stupid.
I got a whisper from a guy called Jazbank. He said: hey, jas here, can you please invite my bank to the guild?

I looked quickly over the guildlist, and did not see Jas online. Ofc, I did NOT know Seedead was him, and I feel stupid for not seeing the note..
I invited him, and promoted him to officer alt.
Suddenly the real Jas told me he didnt have a bank char. I looked twice and thought DOH!
Then I got another whisper from the guy saying: Promote me further, jas needs some settings done. Thats when I realised what I've done and demoted him to purple pony (since I cant kick).
I talked to Jas and he logged on his main and kicked him.
He also managed to tell me when I asked him who he was that he was: Ragnón. But he coulndt be, because that char was raiding in karazhan. He quickly logged off when he found out he was busted.


I know this was a stupid error that shouldnt happen, but yet it did.
So in light of this I would like to ask if we could post on the forums the names of the banks or alts we want in the guild? This way we can avoid imposters like this. I bet he was standing outside stormwind bank ready to get whatevers in there if I promoted him further(which I wouldnt).

No harm done ... good point on requests thru the forums.... its a dangerous place out there

That's one of the reasons why officer alts should not have guild bank permissions, only mains.  I know it's a pain when moving stuff, but you'd feel real daft if guild bank was emptied by an error like this so it's a small price to pay.

I agree with TL, its a very small price to pay, but I still would like to just give a notice on the forums about if you want an alt in the guild as well. Just to be sure.

I have just learnt that earlier today the same scam was also tried on Eureka, BTDT, Sora and a number of other guilds.  Nothing was lost to anything thank goodness.

Several guilds got cleaned out - including Elysium, Vehemence & a month or so ago BTDT.

The general lessons seem to be:

1.  Never let an alt have permissions to withdraw from guildbank.
2.  ALWAYS insist that the alt's name is whispered to your from the main toon before agreeing to the invite.
