Punkbuster Problems.

If you are having punkbuster problems and are getting kicked from the server try the following:

• Go here and download pbsetup, run it, add your game to the list and tell it to check for updates.
  
• If that doesnt work try this thread or this one to see if any of the suggestions help.

Cheers BB, mine seems to be working as normal now, it was down to Punkbuster B still running whilst out of the game.
 
The problem I had:
 
Restriction Service Communications Failure: PnkBstrB.exe initialisation failed
 
after 30 seconds or so after joining the server, I got kick by PB (Punkbuster) with the above error message, this is caused by PnkBstrB.exe (there is a PnkBstrA.exe and a PnkBstrB.exe in Windows/system32)
 
PnkBstrA.exe is always running in windows, whilst PnkBstrB.exe is only actived when in game, and it was this (PnkBstrB.exe) that still running in windows when i left the game, you can see this when you press 'Cntl Alt Del' under processes which you can not end task , however In theory, a hard restart of your system should work!
 
To confirm it has worked, run pbsvc (from BB's link), this should pass with no reported errors,
 
If you are still having issues, and pbsvc still detects problems, you could try (at your own risk) deleting 'PB' folder within c0d4, and remove the 2 PnkBstr*.exe files in windows/system32, then run pbsetup, select cod4 and update, re-run pbsvc and then all should be well again

Might be able to help a little further, taken from a server I have frequentedr:)
 
 
First, download this file: http://websec.evenbalance.com/downloads/windows/pbsetup.zip
 
Install pbsetup
 
Go to your call of duty install and make a new folder named pb_backup
 
Go to your /pb folder and copy all those files to /pb_backup.
 
Run pbsetup. Click on "Check for Updates."
 
It will install a new version of Punkbuster.
 
That should fix the problem.

Hmm, this just hit me and it's a right royal PITA.  Dingo's solution di dnot work, trying Snokio's now.

Just to note that Restarting the PC usually fixes the PnkBstrB.exe problem (if PBsetup has not worked)

Aye, it did, but it's a bleepin stupid problem to still have around some 2 years after it first became apparent. /facepalm
