When I join - the name is always defaulted back to my account name rather than the dMw|Penfold game name.

How can I make it remember my multiplayer name? (I couldn't do the | for the account name).

Start CoD4

Go to Options
Then go to Multiplayer Options
Select Player name and enter dMw|Penfold in the box.

Apply changes and you should be set to go (if it doesn't work we'll put it into the config-mp.cfg manual using a text editor but more of that if needed

It's irritating that it doesn't remember the last name you input.

If you change your multiplayer name while youre not in-game (in the main menu i suppose..) it should remember your new name. It does with me anyway..

Lets do it manually then

Using Windows Explorer go to where your player profile is stored (mine is in C:\Program Files (x86)\Activision\Call of Duty 4 - Modern Warfare\players\profiles\BlueBall)

In that location there will be a file called config_mp.cfg

Open it in wordpad (notepad doesn't read the line breaks properly)

Search for "seta name" without the quotes.

Edit the value to be your desired name - my entry reads as follows:

seta name "dMw|BlueBall"

save and close the file
