Wow, what a S*** child he's raised. I'd slap her too.
I don't get our system for protecting children. A caution (i.e no actual charges pressed) and you're never allowed to work with children again...but if you're a catholic priest with no charges people are still happy to hand over their kids so long as the pope appologises every now and again.

Why aren't you allowed to slap your children anymore? I know beating them to a pulp and claiming they fell down the stairs is a moral grey area, but a smack when they're naughty is no more emotionally harmful than shouting at them constantly. Applied right you won't have to do it very often, compared to shouting at them.

Yup, 'back in the day' a visit to the headmasters office would probably mean a caning, a policeman could clip you around the back of the head and a parent smacking a naughty child did not result in complete strangers questioning their right to be a parent.

The "You can't touch me" part of the current generation make me sick.

Beating (as in punching and kicking) a child is wrong, its abuse and so too is over use of physical punishment, yes, but a smack or slap is a short sharp shock to the system and is designed to inflict an immediate short term response and re-enforcement to a deliberate breaking of a rule that the child was fully aware of and is not meant to inflict any damage. Watch wildlife programs, cubs and such that aren't behaving are given a nip or a push, you don't see them take the cub aside and quietly have a "Mummy doesn't like it when you're naughty, it makes her cry" talk.

It's physics, equal and opposite reaction stuff.

So basically, those who don't smack their kids are breaking the laws of physics and are going to cause the universe to implode on itself. Already the horsemen of the apocalypse are all around us (Hoodies) and I think their appearance can be directly liked back to not being smacked by the parents.

Okay, some kids do respond to vocal restraint and removal of luxuries, good, job done, but some will just ignore it and sterner measures need to be available.

When it comes down to it, it's the parents choice (within reason) as to how to punish their child, taking that choice away from them and then making the parent responsible for everything the kid does in the eyes of the law is just stupid in my view.

When I was a kid my old man used to hit us with the end of his belt, sounds really bad doesn't it. Some do gooder would go up the wall and call the cops etc...

Then you look into the reason my dad is such a big man that if he had hit us with his hand the damage would be much worse than a short slap on the leg from the belt. Which shocked more than it hurt.

Plus it only happened when I stepped well out of line and when I had done something bad enough and got caught I knew it was coming and new I had to pay the price.

Also my kid brother learnt from my mistakes and kept well out of trouble so he never needed to be disciplined.

Therefore, I learnt from an early age about right and wrong and if you do wrong you are punished.

I also learnt if you climb on the school roof and try to get in through the skylight someone WILL see you and ring your parents.. Be warned
