I have, in the passed, recommended the use of the Mozilla web browser, primarily due to it's "Tabbed Browsing" feature. This feature would for example allow a user to view a number of images from a single thumb-nail page by right clicking on each one and "opening in a new tab". Loading and saving large quantities of images becomes a doddle.  Quite why you might want to save vast numbers of pictures to your hard drive is none of my business (but most likely is a result of a condition known as Veronika Zemanova).

Some good folk have voiced a reluctance to switch to an Open Source Browser and choose to stick with Microsofts fine offering, (some use Opera but they are clearly insane and of no concern to us here).

So for those who prefer to stick with the Redmond Beast but quite like the idea of steamlining their image harvesting may I suggest they take a butchers at  The Avant Browser.

This is just a bolt on front end for Internet explorer so you are still using IE.

This recommendation was brought to you by Smilodon - deviant porn-meister extraordinaire. Enjoy.

ahhh, good ol' Veronica

...actually I reckon the best thing about mozilla is it's automatic built in pop-up stopping thing, Perfect for certain kinds of site that feel they must throw hundrends of the *carbonated orange drinks* at you. But then I still use IE most of the time, as so many sites lose their layout in non-IE browsers :?

SM, there are some sites that don't work in Mozilla. PC World, RAC and M&S for example.

M&S at least mentions that their site won't work effectively in Mozilla.

PC World don't know much about computers and the Internet so it seems harsh to critisise them for their appauling Java implimentation

Personally (and knowing a bit ... alright a great deal... about web design) it's nothing more than lazyness if a web page renders badly in Mozilla. IE allows bad html to display as it guesses when it finds a problem. Mozilla is stricter, follows the rules and therefore duff pages appear to be broken in it.  Encouraging sloppy coding is a bad idea so naughty IE.

Also I kind of loose faith in a company that either says

"We can't build our web presence properly" or
"We know we can't build our web presence properly and we don't give  a stuff about the few people who don't use IE"

Kinda like M&S and their no credit card rule. Didn't work to well for them did it

on the flipside you could say that IE dynamically fixes errors, and mozilla was lazily coded to not be able to adjust to compensate for the errors  In the same way your mobile phones fix the gaps in the transmission by repeating the last segment you heard, ...and you never know the difference :D

...not that I support micro$oft or anything...they just do ergonomics very well :)

He he he  :)

Seriously it's important that WWW standards are maintained and that everyone adheres to the protocols. The power of the web is that it can be read by a Mac using Opera, a Windows PC using IE and a Linux box using Mozilla. The body that sets internet standards (The World Wide Web Consortium) does not have commercial, moral or political agendas.

Mozilla obeys those standards and supports the concept of a free unrestricted and open web. One wonders what Bill Gates would do if he owned the web, or access to it  8O

i.e. Microsoft would love to own the scripting and database languages that run this forum (mySQL & PHP). Then they could charge us to use it, maybe 10p a post.

TeaLeaf would be skint.....and so would I !

Quote Loading and saving large quantities of images becomes a doddle.

If you want to save large amounts of pics or mp3´s, why don´t you use programs like for example teleport pro?

With teleport pro you can even download those streammedia files used by Real Media, and then convert them to wav-files or avi-files with , with for example "ra2wav".

I use IE for normal websurfing, but when I find a good site, I use teleport pro!  :)

Yeah but I like to select my pictures with care

I use avant after trying Mozilla.  My preference for all things MS means I have now uninstalled Mozilla, but it was ok.  Then again I started on IE and never used Netscape before so this probably explains my prefernece for it.  Older users who started on Netscape may well prefer mozilla.

Suicidal_Monkey - Avant has a facility to stop pop ups which works very well.
If I wanted you to understand I would have explained it better
