ive been having doubts about what gear to go for with the current talent ive gone with being Fire.

Ive noticed that most of the cloth gear dropped/given has +haste rating on them so ive decided to go for it wich has depleted my +crit considerably. But my overall dps hasnt sufferd as much, unfortunatly the mana drain is gone up and im having trouble keeping mana up in the instance runs. Ive got over 300 Haste rating now bringing my Fireball to 2,6 sec cast time, plus the global cd should be faster, although i havent actually noticed/watched this.

Id like to stay Fire, i may go arcane when i turn 80 to see whats happend in that tree over the last 2 years but im guessing ill eventually end up back in the Fire tree anyways. So my question is what is de prio list for a Fire mage for the following stats?

- Haste rating
- Crit chance
- Hit rating ( mainly for when raiding ive read).

note: - Ive found that most of the +haste gear i come across have Intell and spirit on them. i ofc want intell and stamina, so is this a sign that its more healing gear then DPS?

I Have also noticed a destinct lack of +crit gear as well.

Im holding judgement a bit.

Damage is almost always greater than crit at the moment and has been since T6.  Hence the abundance of red sockets on top end gear.

So TL, you saying that with reduced casting time you will gain more dps then when you cast slower but crit more?

Then haste rating will do better then crit right?

For the hast I have a question to... does the hast effect the global cooldown of the spells? For example, I pressed the wrong casting button, so I move or jump (I rather move..faster) spell get interrupted but the CD on all spell is taking considerably long.... I had times I lost a tank in that 1.5 sec ... ofc I had to press the right button I agree, but that's not the discussion right now.

Hope to hear about this as I run into CD more often in Wotlk.

My understanding is that haste does indeed affect the global cooldown as well, although of course the CD is quite short (1.5 secs IIRC) so you'd need quite a lot of haste to make a dent in it that you'd actually notice (haste speeds up cast time by a %, same % across all spells/CD, so the shorter the cast time initially, the most haste you need to make the same real-time dent in it compared with a longer spell).

Knabbel yes, in short for mages haste is better than crit.

In very rough terms and ignoring some differences for build, during TBC for mages +damage was best up until about +1200 damage.  Beyond that haste was better than damage, but in both cases damage was better than crit.  I was running with close to 20% haste on my mage prior to WotLK.

In WotLK I have to be honest and say I have not done the math yet, but I suspect it will remain similar although the breakeven point will have moved considerably upwards.
