It's a demo of HL2's Source engine showing some fantastic effects. Imagine a wet AntLion on a wet roof with the sun just starting to come out after a storm.

Shacknews has finally received official word that Half-Life 2 will not be making its planned release date of September 30, something a quick glance at the calendar can confirm. Here's the quote from Valve's Doug Lombardi:

The previously announced September 30th release date for Half-Life 2 is being pushed back. We are currently targeting a holiday release, but do not have a specific "in-store" date to share at this time. We will release that information as soon as we have confirmed a new date.

I agree....

1) Starting around 9/11 of this year, someone other than me was accessing my email account. This has been determined by looking at traffic on our email server versus my travel schedule.

Ok, so change your passwords. Duh!

2) Shortly afterwards my machine started acting weird (right-clicking on executables would crash explorer). I was unable to find a virus or trojan on my machine, I reformatted my hard drive, and reinstalled.

Well, this seems odd. Not come across a right-click crash before. Still, this bit is the most believable.

3) For the next week, there appears to have been suspicious activity on my webmail account.

The next week? Man, can I have what your security guy is smoking, 'cause it must be some real good shit for this to continue for a week.

4) Around 9/19 someone made a copy of the HL-2 source tree.

And you don't encrypt the folder? And why is it on your machine. Something this important should be on a server that is backed up and protected.

5) At some point, keystroke recorders got installed on several machines at Valve. Our speculation is that these were done via a buffer overflow in Outlook's preview pane. This recorder is apparently a customized version of RemoteAnywhere created to infect Valve (at least it hasn't been seen anywhere else, and isn't detected by normal virus scanning tools).

Yeah right. So you install Outlook, a nice piece of software with MANY flaws in it's raw form and then you don't patch it up. I really do want some of that shit your security guy is on

6) Periodically for the last year we've been the subject of a variety of denial of service attacks targetted at our webservers and at Steam. We don't know if these are related or independent.

Independant. Steam has pissed a lot of people off. You will get dicks like this trying to make a point. I dunno, maybe it makes them feel like their manhood grows bigger.

Important: Just to be clear, it's ok to talk about the leak and the possible implications, however we'll nuke you and your family if you even make the most slight clever hint of where to download it or even screenshots of it.

More shock news. It seems that a lot more of HL2 was pinched than first admitted, including maps sounds and models. So much was pinched that it seems there is actually a playable copy of it doing the rounds!
