We've had Full mode on the nKP server for a couple of days and I've been mulling it over. In principal, I am a 100% Full mode man, but...
On a public server with 10 lap races I don't think it works for these reasons:

  • The setup change restriction is negated by the simple expediant of leaving the server and rejoining.
  • As is the repairing of damage
  • In a 10 lap race sitting in the pit for 10 minutes is pretty much pointless because the race is practically over by the time the mechanics have pulled their fingers out! In reality you'd simply retire.
  • It is not conducive to holding on to visitors and we're in the business of attracting visitors right?
When and if we have a long race as in LFS then Full mode would be obligatory in my opinion.
So in the meantime I've made the servers non FM
Your thoughts?

Hi!

I was on your server last night, and I also did this in qualify, i crashed and then...exit / enter

I like it alot, but it doesn't have proper appeal in pickup races, just because you can actually cheat it.

well, the couple of times I tried it I thought it was interesting and enjoyable, but I have to agree, if we are trying to keep a populated server probably best not have it enabled for the short races.  Its an excellent mode for long racing though.

About the disconnect and reconnect to circumvent the long waits. I think this is comparable to LFS and using Race S for team racing.  People have to be trusted and if they decide to cheat, well more pity for them. I'm guessing that this probably wasn't a forgotten loop hole by the developer.  Like the speeding in pit lane, it would probably be noted in a log that could be viewed after, that some one had disconnected and reconnected to avoid repair, so action could be taken then.

I get the feeling with this sim that such things are not really as big a problem as in LFS because it has a more serious feel and maybe is aimed more at league racing.  Not that you cant have some short friendly races. maybe I would have a different opinion if it became hugely popular like LFS.  I just get the feeling that they don't need to include harsh anti cheat measures because a more mature racing audience is expected. Maybe I'm just naive :D

Yup, I'm a fan of Full Mode, but it really only works in league or organised races where you have a short practice session when everyone joins before qual and make qual non joinable to stop the exit/rejoin server syndrome.

As Sean says, penalties for pit lane speeding are usually dealt with through the server logs and dished out after the race. Again, that's only really useful for league/organised races.

It's become pretty obvious that its pointless using full mode in pickup races.

But worth the try I think. At least we know what it entails.

Yes I agree. I also agree with your decision to remove it. In a perfect world we could leave it on.

lovretta

Well maybe you could try and put some practice session on, and make qualy session "unjoinable"...

We don't want to make it too complicated. We'll bumble along as we are for the moment and see how we go. I had a couple of races on the 1600 server tonight and it was a mixed bag. A few n00bs and some clean racers. Not bad at all really.
