Here are my proposals for a one hour race in nKP

  • Full mode
  • Passworded
  • First come, first served(if you disconnect to get round a repair waiting time you may not get back in)
  • Sessions: Half hour practice(use this time to book your place on the server) 20 minute qualifying and race of approximately one hour. I'll base this on the lap record for the particular combo to be found on nKP Rank. e.g. F1600-Prato Full GP, LR 1.38:83 = 43 laps. This would be rounded up or down to make a sensible amount of laps
  • I'll reboot the server at 19:30 with the above config and let it ride.
How am I doing so far?
I've thought long and hard about this bit: BLUE FLAGS.

  • As blue flags are not implemented in nKP I propose the following
  • Lapping drivers treat lapped drivers as someone else they must pass. They must not expect cars to jump out of the way!
  • Drivers being lapped(if indeed they are aware of being lapped) can defend their place in the normal way. i.e. One blocking move, one return to racing line and THAT'S IT!
  • My reasoning behind this is so: If The Moose scurries off into the distance he has a lonely race. If he has to work at and possibly be slowed down by slower cars, he could possibly be caught by his next rival.
  • I feel that once this general principal has been assimilated it will promote a higher level of driving standards on Dead Men Racing.
I haven't yet decided on a day but Wednesdays are looking favourite at the moment. Other dMw games have their main night and I don't want to tread on any toes.

Dons flak jacket and waits for incoming.

ok , here goes then :narnar:

Not sure about the blue flags, i understand that its hard to police any rule but i think it should really reflect real racin.
Maybe it should be more of unforced rule that you give way to lapping cars as soon as its convenient to do so without losing too much time yourself .

Wednesdays like thursdays are no good for me personally, as its another night i'm out , but i am only one (ok 1 and a 1/2 )   lets see what everyone else says :)
It is better to stay quiet and act the fool, than to say something and remove all doubt

There are no blue flags in netKar Pro. And in Full mode there is no position information. So, you don't know who is coming up behind you. is it someone trying to nick your place or is it someone lapping you? Very hard to know.

Firstly a big "yay" for 1 hour races :)

As for the being lapped stuff, well I'll go with whatever the rules are. As long as everyone is aware of the rules it isn't a problem.  But as a car being lapped i wouldn't ever see the point of holding up the leaders anyway. that just looses you time and the chance of catching your nearest competitor.

I don't really agree with that tbh.   As long as you check the pitboard each lap you should have a pretty good idea of what's going on around you.   If the guy behind you is 10 secs down and you find yourself with a car rapidly approaching you half a lap later, you can be pretty sure its not the guy for position.   It's no substitute for blue flags, but you can keep a pretty good track of what's going on around you.

Anyhow, count me in!   1 hour races means a pitstop as well.  Always a good thing in my book.

Itchy

Yes please, I'd like to play.
This may be heresy, but why a fixed time race? Why not a 40 lap race, as opposed to 1hr=43 laps? If the object is to have a realistic approach to the evenings racing...

I hear you and agree.(what the hell do you know about being lapped? :D)Except, in the heat of racing in nKP(Full mode) being that certain of your position isn't as clear cut as in LFS or even iRacing, specially in midfield.

My mistake. I made an assumtion that I'd be addressing LFS drivers. In which case they'd be used to 'in yer face' race information. Maps, position lists, blue flag text across the screen and a whole bunch more.
The pitboard does take some getting used to but of course, like most things, once you do it's not a problem.

Good sense is frowned on round here. Now stop it this instant! :sideways:

Good thought. I was dragging along years of LFS. :D

First post amended.

19:30 gmt. May well try one next Wednesday

Looks very tempting :) . Really hope I can make it in this one time wise.

I don't think lapping should be a problem here. Full mode on I can't see too many racers equipped with "blocking mentality" around at the time lapping begins. And Moose makes such a noise when approaching. ;)

As long as it's not today, my gaming rig shuffled off to the great interwebs in the sky yesterday, after several years of valiant service (a minutes silence, please.......) So upgrade/rebuild now under way (silver lining).
With regard to the race, Moose says 1hr race=pitstops. Again, on the realism front refuelling doesn't take place in Formula Ford races (at least, the last time I saw one), and tyre changes don't usually play a part in race strategy, so why pitstops? Surely part of nKp racing in this manner should include car management? If you miscalculated the amount of fuel needed for full bore racing over 40 laps, then you may have to slow slightly to conserve fuel to finish, and in the same way, if your tyres are going away from you, ease up on them for a couple of laps. Granted Moose will have a huge lead by mid-distance and could stop, change tyres, refuel, have a cup of tea and a bacon sarnie, and still come out ahead of everyone else, so should perhaps be handed a awesomeness penalty to give mere mortals a glimpse of the top step.
If I'm being overly anal about this, just give me a slap, but I feel that nKp aims to be a truly serious race simulator, and that a long distance race in full mode should aim to add to the realism by being organised, where possible, to reflect racing in real life. I'm sure there will be initial difficulties as people get used to a different way of racing, but all the racers on the dMr server are mature and sensible, and from what I've seen, will work together to solve any problems that arise.

How long do FF races last irl? I've no idea. I got the impression that the fuel tank doesn't hold enough to do an hour without refueling. I haven't tested it. Maybe someone has. :) We'll find out one way or another.
I was thinking next Wednesday (21st) would be good. We'll start with F1600s on....tbn

EDIT: I'm sorry for your loss (in NYPD fat detective voice. (forget his name))

Itchy

Thank you for your condolences. Sat with a naked chassis at the mo (is that computer porn?)
My intention is to try FF1600 with full tanks around Prato GP to see how many laps I get out of it. The fast guys will more than likely have worse fuel consumption, but should give a rough idea.

The Moose

Looking at the results of last years British Formula Ford championships, the races only last between 15 and 30 mins.

If you want to see how many laps they are capable of on a full tanks just drive 3 laps, go back to the pits, fill the tank up and it will say how many laps you should be able to do.

FF1600 at Prato GP will do approx 19 laps on a full tank.

GPC feature races were aprox 40-45 mins long last season.

Hey! I reckon this is going to be good. I'm getting excited already! :woot2:
