Quote from: Doorman;260539I didn't say that WE have a problem with hardcore did I? I was asked why nobody is playing it and game my thoughts as to why. I've been on the server every night and only get a few strangers, albeit a few recognisable names. So where are you?
As for the problem of idiots what do you do if you can't kick/ban them? Make the server private or only have full game cars? Not enough of us (dMr) have bought the full game and my interests are primarily for dMr drivers. Chicken - egg, egg- chicken. At my reckoning there are 5 of us with the full game. Itchy, Spud, Vobler, Deetz and myself, so that puts F1800, F2000 and FTarget out of the equation.

As for the 'more formal' comment I was pondering, nothing more, having a stated time there will be races. At least you know you'll get a go.

You tell me.

EDIT: Re-reading Craig's post, are you asking for Full mode on our 'demo' server? I'm game for that but, how many 'passers by' would we get? We can try it by all means.

i normally get on tuesdays and sat/sunday daytime, as you are aware monday is cod4, thurs LFS, then other racers play left for dead also Iracing, the choice is getting larger i cant keep up!!! but i would like to see more people getting on netkar as you would.

Indeed. There's just too many sims/games out there that are fighting for my attention. It's a bit of a luxury problem really. :D

Yesterday I wanted to practice Lastplace Lake, since that's tomorrow's track. I had to do this offline though, since the server was set to another track. May I suggest that the server is set to that week's track a few days before Wednesday, so that people can get some practice in before "the real deal"? :) Maybe that will bring more people as well..?

If you think practicing online will make a difference....consider it done.

Yes, I agree that nkPro was probably designed with leagues in mind. I would think that people who drive in leagues have different expectations of the sim in use, and also other drivers behaviour. Hardcore mode shows that this is indeed a racing simulation (made to simulate taking the ol' FF1600 down to Silvers or Brands for the weekend) and not a game as such. As such its target audience differs from other racers (such as LFS). This is by no means a put down of LFS, which I still really enjoy, but just a recognition that the end aims of the two differ. With this in mind, I think you have to approach nkPro in a different way, both as a player, and, I suspect, when hosting a server.
As a player, in hardcore mode, you have to accept that you can't do things like join mid-race, because you don't do that at Brands. If you trash the suspension, it takes time to repair, or means you're out of the race. Changing gear ratios takes time, etc etc. The upside, at least for me, is that you think more about how you drive, and what's going on around you, because there is no quick fix if you screw up. Frustrating at times, yes, but if you can't handle a little frustration in something that ultimately doesn't matter in the greater scheme of things, then you really should just get a grip!
In respect of hosting a server, I can't really comment, so I'll ready myself for a slap from Ron  but I do think you can't approach hosting LFS and nkPro in the same way. Yes, I know the basics will be the same, but again the target audience differs. If I want to have a quick race, perhaps a couple over 10 - 15 minutes I'll choose LFS. Even the hour long LFS races are different, because in the event of trashing your car, you can still rejoin the event for some action very quickly. With nkPro, although you can have quick pickup races, my mindset is still different, in that a escaping back to the pits, for whatever reason, seems like cheating somehow. So the whole experience is more challenging, and server hosting should be approached with that in mind. When you race on our server you will find it more challenging, but stick with it, because the rewards are greater. So, yes, in that respect even demo servers should be run in hardcore. This is not racing for the faint hearted or feeble :taz: (this is M&S racing.... )
Sorry, losing the thread here. Now where was I? Oh, yes, pontificating.....
Not everybody looks for instant gratification, some people spend their lives constantly seeking perfection in some areas, knowing this is unobtainable, yet continue because to quit is to admit defeat, and the journey is its own reward (yakkity schmakkity blah blah blah) Perhaps we should be altering peoples expectations as to what to expect from a nkPro server? Maybe we won't get as many passers by, but maybe some of those that do drop by will find it an experience they enjoy, and wish to repeat, without joining a league?

Puts soapbox away. (Should NOT be allowed near a keyboard when I'm this tired....)

With respect to few servers showing up in the lobby, is this a bug? Hitting refresh a few times brings different servers up on the screen on occasion.

Shutting up now, promise

As i see it, Dead Men Racing's target audience is the same whichever sim you choose.

Therein lies the rub

The question is, are there enough people to get a reasonable grid. Add Full mode to that and I'd say no.

These people have been hanging in with nKP 1.0.2 since forever and have their own clique. Not a difficult one to join but they ain't coming to search us out.

Yes I believe so

I've heard that before :flirty:
