Gnomie

This was my first hour race of the season. For three reasons:
1) There's been a lot going on lately, and Thrusdays haven't been a good day for me
2) Not all the combos run so far have interested me
3) Other sims are taking up more of my time

So I was happy to race again yesterday. With minimal practice beforehand I had 0 expectations really, so I was pleased to do well in quali. I totally messed up the start of the race, though, dropping me from 3rd to 8th. But that was actually just as well, because that caused me to get involved in a great battle with Mille and Lameduck, lasting at least 10 laps before I finally shook them off. :) By then the leaders were way ahead, and there was no way for me to catch up.

The rest of the race was quite lonely. I finally got in some good laptimes in towards the end of the race, but didn't manage to make the gap any smaller.

I enjoyed this one, although the car's a real handful on that course.  I was hoping to finish in a non-last position, but a miscalculation when letting the leaders pass caused a spin, allowing Ron and Scratchy to get past.

Beautiful bit of dMr camaraderie displayed by Mille Sabords giving Lameduck a push over the line... :)

For which I am extremely grateful :D
Had a great dice with several drivers throughout the race, Gnomie, Mille Sabords, Obsolum and CrazyR1. Here's hoping for similar excitement
in future races.
Must err on the side of caution with the fuel calculation though.

This was the second race of the year for me, because I didn't like the combo's on offer the first 4 weeks of the year. Last week's XRG @ Aston Club I was nowhere near competitive enough to really enjoy the race, or score some points.

This week's combo I really enjoyed, however. I'd been looking forward to the long race, I knew it was going to be a good one. In the sprint races I felt I was fast enough to put up a fight with the midfielders. The leaders were out of my reach, as always :)

I qualified 11th, but messed up the start and lost 3 positions in the first few 100 meters, and then 2 more in the following corners, ending up in 16th. I slowly began to work my way up the grid, helped by the mistakes of others and - unfortunately - the disco's from a few. By the 30-minute mark I had just passed CrazyR1 - who wasn't about to let me go, keeping the pressure on - and upon entering the pitlane I had caught up with Lameduck. It got a bit crowded with the 3 of us in the pitlane. After the stop Lameduck managed to pull away from me again, while Andy clamped onto me.

After a few laps, though, the gap with Lameduck began to shrink little by little. I thought maybe he was having some difficulty with tyre temperetures and/or wear, so I got a little hopeful :D It took me several more laps before I finally managed to pass him - moving up to 5th position - , after which I pulled away from him and CrazyR1, though they were never out of my mirrors :) It stayed that way until the end of the race. The last 5 minutes were very stressful for me, I was afraid that I would make some foolish mistake in the final laps, as I usually tend to do whenever I'm in a fairly good finishing position. I kept it on the track, though, and crossed the finish line in 5th, earning my first points of the year :yahoo:

Congratulations to the winners, and to Bob and Andy for making this such a great race. It's been a long time since I enjoyed a race this much.

And thanks go Mille for sharing his set, whithout which I wouldn't have had such a good race, I'm sure.

This was the first 1 hour race in a long time I participated in. It was a really good combo, I liked it very much and I was looking forward to thursday evening. I qualified 4th, Gnomie dropped back a bit at the start, so I was 3rd, and to my greatest surprise, I was able to keep up with manny and Venca. I believe Venca must have had some issues because he was not as fast as he had been the previous nights. At some point he locked up badly at T1 so we both went past him with Manny. I managed to stay closely behind him, and after some time and a few tries I passed him. It was a great battle. Everything looked good, my tyres was ok, I did not lose speed, I was expecting to win this race, but teh internets thought otherwise. It was very disappointing, but oh well, the best you can do is saying "**** happens" and moving on.

I would appreciate if someone could post the replay.

unlucky mate, yeah there where a few of us that got bitten by the disco bug. Oldie, myself, Dee, you and a couple of others irc. I was looking forward to this combo myself, was hotting up to have a battle with Andy I reckon, our most recent in too long :) .  I got to see some nice racing though while I was sipping a beer and spectating.

congrats to the winners :)

I started...I finished...I made a pit stop between those two points.

Deetz

Well I really enjoyed this combo, and it was a good close race. :)

After seeing the times of Venca, Manny etc I didn't have my hopes up. I qualified not too bad, and was lucky off the start getting into 3rd ahead of Iron. However it didn't take long for him to get by.

To my great surprise I managed to stay in touch with the leading group. and when Venca made his mistake and was passed by Iron and Manny I was able to put him under pressure. He appeared to have an overheating tyre or two, leaving black trails behind through the corners, but I was missing a couple of tenths of ultimate pace, and he eased himself slowly away.

I felt very sorry for Iron when he was disconnected; he looked to have the race in the bag. Unlucky mate. :console:

Stopping late in the race, I came out right on Venca’s tail in 2nd place. :D Manny hadn’t managed to leap frog me. Again, although I could put Venca under pressure, I couldn't get by, and after a couple of small mistakes on my part he eased away for the win.

  Great stuff once again.

Mille Sabords

I enjoyed this combo and even started again playing with Bob Smith VHPA tool.
I was able to create a driveable setup, easy on tyres although not so fast. It took me too many evenings this week though (been a long time since I tried this, and last time it was mousing - with a wheel it is much more interesting and rewarding), so I will excuse myself from LFS for a while to restore balance at home :)

I enjoyed the first part of the race with Lameduck and Gnomie, Gnomie was a bit faster but I tried to keep him behind for a while until his excellent move!
I was faster than Lameduck and tried to get pass, but his defending was fantastic!
I ended up missing a turn in pooint and clipped a hay ball (is that the correct word?) that slightly damaged my left front suspension... Lost a few places, and although I pushed I could not close the 15s gap ahead.
I met Lameduck limping towards the finish line and helped him cross it, ahead of me (I had to insist) because he had deserved that position during our earlier battle :D
That combo was challengeing by itself while leaving space for close racing and strategy (tyres wear and temp)
Lots of fun, very clean and respectful. Thanks all!

Quote from: Mille Sabords;262350......clipped a hay ball (is that the correct word?)
Strictly speaking it would be a straw bale.(50p each) Straw being the stalks of wheat and used for animal bedding. Hay is dried grass and fed to horses.(last time I bought some it was £3.00 a bale. God knows what it is now! Sn00ks?)
Unless you meant hair ball which would be puked up by cats.
Hope that helps. :)

Mille Sabords

Seeing the density of what the car hit, it may have been lead-filled straw. But the colour speaks for Hay. Can a bale be a parallelepiped? I think we can exclude hair bale, Bigfacat was not participating this week.
I have no clue what a hair bale could be worth these days in £ though.
