My feeling on dkp and the easiest way to do it from playing with webdkp (www.webdkp.com)

I was having a brain wave while @ work (not a lot of other things to think about)

i think the simplest way to manage dkp will be to award everyone in a 25 man raid 1 dkp for each piece of loot that drops, to make this a zero sum sorta system, each piece of loot that someone reicieves costs 25dkp.

there for if 3 pieces of loot drop from a boss there will be a  total of 75 dkp given out and 75dkp spent. people that want the loot roll to register there request for loot, the loot master then looks at who has the most dkp out of the people that want it and awards, if there are ties then the roll's count.

Thoughts please - i know it may not be totally the fairest but i just want to make it easy to maintain

please get web dkp and get it working

Jas can you post the password for it pleae!!!! I cant remember it and the registerd email addy is yours the username is deadmen

Put the details in the FYI thread that is pinned at the top of this forum.

Zero sum works fine, but remember if you get to a point where you have a 'farm night' and a 'wipe night' in the same week that the wipe night will pay significantly less DKP and you get an attendance bias starting to creep in.  That's why zero sum hour systems came into being and began awarding DKP by averaging the DKP spent over a longer period so that the value of each hour's raiding was equalised between farm and wipe nights.  If you do not normalise then I set out below my siuggested alternative.

Webdkp works seriously well whatever option you use within it I recommend it.  It also allows easy ingame maintendance of the DKP list, easy upload to the website of the latest data and and the addon handles the bidding/whisper interest real nicely.

If you want simplicity I would suggest the following:

-auto-award DKP at the rate of 1 per 30 minutes (use the auot-award feature in the addon).
-cap DKP at 100 (a number I have found to work well) to avoid DKP inflation and to encourage DKP spending not hording) (the addon can make the cap adjustment very easily)
-use a private bid system with a minimum dkp bid of 15 (the addon handles this automatically)

Also, decide what you want to do for offspec loot.  I have seen different systems work well here, but ubying offspec loot from guildbank seems to have been the most popular in my experience.  I can provide a table of weightings and prices if you want as an example.  If you wanted the next most popular, then allow DKP bids of between 5-14 dkp for offspec loot.

So, my vote would be for a private bid system with capped half-hourly DKP .  The addon will handle this easily and you will not get the farm/wipe bias problems or DKP inflation.

Happy to explain and discuss these options more if people need.

Although I've never used a bidding dkp system before, the one you mentioned (even with dkp awarded over time) sounds alot like the one we used in Righteous, Sheep. Only difference I guess was we used a pricing list and when the item was bought by someone, the rest of the raid got (price/ammount of raidmembers).

It's ok at first but after a few months you get inflation regardless of wether it's intentional dkp hoarding or not. There was a point where for each class we basically had a ranking in the dkp, come forth from the attendance of people. So if for instance a caster staff dropped, it would always go to Person X first, then Person Y, Person Z etc, because Person X had so much more dkp than Person Y, and Y than Z, that no matter what they bought, they never dropped below eachother in ammount of dkp. In the end it was hell to manage too, but it was in the days when there wasn't a reliable addon for it yet and we had to alt tab all the time and manually insert every item bought, boss killed, player attended etc. etc. I still have nightmares.

I dunno, TL's system sounds fairly ok, although I'm no math king so all the numbers make me a bit :g: I would even go as far as to say dkp is overrated and we're all mature enough to accept rolls, but I suppose with a 25-man raid and upcoming recruits who aren't 'core' there may be problems. My view is probably a utopic one.
