Realism server

The funny thing about Counter-Strike?

"is that while it is currently one of the most realistic simulations of counter-terrorism (when played properly), it falls down massively in the most fundamental of areas: The destructive capabilities of firearms.

Have you ever been happily playing away in a public server, when all of a sudden you see your enemy spring forth before you, staring at you with deathly intent. "Aha" you say, "Not a problem, my trusty MP5 Navy will take down this foe!"

You unleash a barrage of lead in his direction, most shots hitting him in the chest area, but wait, what is this? I'm dead? I'M DEAD?! But I saw about 10 of my bullets hit!!!!

It's not a mistake. It's not packet loss or lag. It?s not the new "reflecto-bullet-hax". It's CS doing what CS does best; pretending guns that can kill a man with 1 strike are actually firing chewed up bits of cardboard.

That's why the server located at 82.136.2.130:27015 exists. Players start the round with 20hp, and when you start exchanging fire, you'd better hope your teammates are there to back you up, because the last thing you want is to be on your own against?well, anyone. That's the point, being in a combat situation is never an easy thing, your life is frail - and very easily stolen from you when guns are involved.

I found the effects of this 20hp rule simply amazing... For example on de_aztec, the camping spot at the CT side of the bridge became a danger zone (the full power a HE grenade is realised!) - I observed that players no longer ran across an open space in a rambo-esque hero mission, but instead checked for clearance, asked for cover, then sprinted to the next point of safety. It completely changes the way tactics work, and makes for one hell of an exciting game.

I could go on for hours about why this 20hp rule is so good, but instead, I'll just let you know where to catch a game.

That sounds like a good idea OB.  It'd make the game play a bit more like Day of Defeat, in so far as it'll be really easy to pick up damage.  Playing that certainly makes you think more about using all available cover when going places.

Could we try it one evening on one of the servers - just for a laugh like?

I seem to be very good at losing all 100 health v quickly, so llsing 20 would mean i barely would get out of spawn before dying!
