I'm opening up the de-brief thread before I forget what I thought of the match tonight, so apologies Snokio for possibly stealing your thunder. I just want to get this down before I reformat my headd:)

They chose Downpour, we chose Strike

As was mentioned on the other thread, we experienced some new tactics against us tonight.

Sparko mentioned the spawn problems we had....this is how I see it...

The problem that was soo noticable on the 2nd map was that we all spawned close together and they had our spawnpoints locked down. This seems a pretty low tactic, but I'm afraid we will have to adopt it if we're going to avoid heavy defeats.
I was getting a fair bit of lag, especially with lots of nades going off (it's ongoing my end and not the server I suspect, although Snokio did lag with a nade in his hand at 1 point).
They also took up good positions and knew exactly where to cover.

  • We are going to have to practice these tactics and learn the spawn points so that we can do the same.
  • We will have to develop a tactic to break out of these no-win situations.
  • As far as map selection goes. so far we've chosen Crash and Strike (twice) AFAIK. We should decide on 2 maps to learn and then concentrate on them. That way we can at least choose 1 map that we have developed some tactics on, and if they choose 1 of "our" maps, we choose the other and we stand a chance. If they choose 1 we don't know very well at least we know 1 pretty well.
  • I had loads of other ideas and observations that came to me during the match, but my brain feels wrung out after that match....hopefully they'll come back to me.:)
I'll leave it to others to describe the action.

I managed to knife one of em too:yahoo:

I think they had a different team for each map....
The biggest problem for us is the simple thing that we don't play TDM, I bet those guys play it 5 times a week and nothing else. Thats why they know all the good spots and can designate the spots also.

What about if we make a team and just go to a public server and try to take it as a ED-challenge and WIN ? That would be the best situation for us to learn all the nasty stuff etc. We could even change our tags if needed.
I don't think there is really point only playing ED-matches as we don't practice at all. If we play practice matches on dMw servers, we play with dMw ethos, as we are so custom to them but I'm afraid they just don't cut in ED-ladder....

most server admins dont like teamstacking.

Might be but I have played on few of the servers where the servers owners wanted to be on the same side, always. We just need to find right server.

if last nights team is on tonight. we can run a few TDM with you guys on the same side.

Penfold

Yeah, what Arm says, We can just do it in-house. It's in everyone's interests that we field a practised team.

You are spot on. This have been a problem that we have seen and experienced before with CSS as well. I think that either we decide to play for fun or play competitively in matches. If we choose the latter we need to consider having a TDM server (or dedicated TDM nights) to get that type of practice that we don't get from our normal tactical style of play.

agreed, we need to roll up our sleeves and start playing dirty if we want to compete.
i did notice that we were competitive earlier on in the maps, but as soon
as they had chance to get their dirty tactics going they left us standing.
i'm sure if we adopt a ruthless attitude, we not only will compete but even win a few on the way.

the question is should we.. ???:g:

Another thing...

When we were all faffing about trying to connect/set rates/record demo etc. one of their guys typed in chat "You guys should really sort out match profiles".
I thought "yeah, I would if I could"
So if anyone wants to show us how to set 1 up..:)
I imagine it's much the same as CSS where you type "exec edwar.cfg" or similar into console.
Can it save your class binds (which reset with map change)?

The thing with setting up all settings before a match is that each server is set a little different as far as fps and maxpackets are concerned so its a little hard to be that ready, if you get what i mean.

I should be on tonight so would like to be involved in the practice.  I agree that, although i dont promote it, we need to be a little "dirtier".

on another point, in order to gain dMw competitor badge do you need to complete in more than one match? this quetion has only just come to me thats all :narnar:

No. One competitive match (so long as it's officially organised and against people outside dMw) in any one of our officially supported games is enough to qualify for the badge.

I'm not entirely sure who's taken responsibility for allocating them though so it'd be nice for the War arrangers to keep on top of this and to let me know if someone has played who does not have it.

Thanks

It needs to be added to a process or it won't happen - or will fall into disuse as personnel change.

Yup, steps already in hand to rectify :)

Cheers

i wasnt having a go  it was just a question that popped into my head

Don't worry, it was a valid point that needed to be addressed. :)

I will try to get some more regular practice match sessions on our own match server as this will be running the same mods as our competitive matches (no claymores, limited perks / guns etc etc) Unfortunately, our last one was short on numbers :crying:we could arrange this on a weekly or fortnightly basis to start off with, but we need at the very least a 4v4 and at best 6v6.

Also, I have amended the 'match play guide' to include the maxpackets command along with all the other ones needed on a match server (see step 8) but I agree with Blunt, it would be nice to be able to set up a profile, I'll try and do some research on it.
