385 pages of people asking is the PC version going to be delayed. And not even a single response from IW ....

And when rumours started to travel about xbox being delayed with also one fake picture about a confersation with a IW worker emerged it got shot down in a matter of hours. Equal love eh ?

Most interesting thing I have read to this point was the speculations about MW2 not having dedicated servers, but a matchmaking like xbox. Let's just hope that ain't true.

What I want to know is are you guys going to ditch COD4 when this comes out?

As I am just starting to get back into COD4 once I get used to using the Nt52e which I tried and failed with last night lol

I'm sure there will be lots playing COD4 for a while to come.

Imho Cod4 is too good a game to abandon overnight
but if mw2 lives up to its billing then i'm sure that it will be adopted as a supported game at some point

but untill that point cod4 rules:yahoo:

Agreed.

Arm what are you planning with regard to servers for mw2?

It's another chance for us to get new members

If MW2 lives up to the billing it should be a straight replacement for cod4. Not an overnight replacement. But i can't see running COD4 and MW2 servers simultaneously will help server populations.

Karrde

Lots of controversy around the game with delays, price hikes, etc.

The console version looks like it's now going to have a RRP of Ã,£55 and there's a collectors edition that comes in at Ã,£120 with NV goggles.

They have a lot of experience with multiplayer so I would imagine they know what they're doing performance wise, but there are a host of non-performance related issues with not having dedicated servers.

How do you play with your friends?
How do you play with enforced modified rules (No nade spamming etc)

Enough said...

QuoteWell it looks like I won't be buying COD:MW2 after all, save your bucks folks this is a dead fish! IW released info today in an interview that they will be making major changes to the game that have resulted in a huge **** storm on the IW forum and could be a signal of sad things to come.

No dedicated servers - Instead they will use their own listening servers AKA P2P much like OFP: DR did upon its release, and many people can tell you what a FAIL system that is. Hey guess what else they thought of you can only customize the server if you host a private session; how innovative! -FACEPALM- MW2 will also rely heavily on a match making system that copies those on Xbox Live. _Inserts pencils in eyes_

Punk Buster will be dropped for VAC and the game will tie in to Steam, yes that giant hunk of bloated STEAMing dog shh excuse for a game sales / Social fail company.

Also they mentioned they will not be releasing mod tools which means NO custom maps and zero mods. YAY!

Their excuse oh I mean "reason" for these poor choices is that they thought they were "innovative" and ground breaking for the PC platform, they believe these changes will even the playing field for noobs, oops I mean "all players" and create a fun experience. The interviewee also said that "the PC will be getting the exact same game as consoles", yea just what we want.

I honestly can say I now believe that PC gaming is dieing and its happening quick. I didn't want to believe it when in the last 4 years more and more people said the PC was a dieing platform, even some developers admitted that they too thought we had reached the end of an era. The evidence just keeps piling up and I really can't ignore it anymore, if you look back at 90% or so of the games released in the last few years its hard to deny because they are all just console ports filled with bugs and lack of support for the PC platform. Highly rated releases are becoming more rare with only one or two games a year worthy of being purchased and replayed. I will never buy a console even though I grew up on them, I just can't accept them as a legitimate online gaming experience so I will give up gaming before I will even consider purchasing one of those over priced mini computers.

There have been many excuses for this shift in the market with the largest and most inaccurate stating that piracy is ruining game sales on the PC. The dirty secret here is that console also suffer from a large amount of piracy and a larger used games market as well, thus you are left with the two true reasons for this slow death.

1 Their is a larger player base on the console market for any platform, many people don't have the money or the knowledge to build a PC capable of running newly released games at high visual quality and good frame rates. Most people don't understand the PC gaming niche because they are like me and grew up playing an NES or similar and thus they have never even really thought of gaming on a PC. Related to the previous example and the one base that makes up the majority are all the preteens/teens that can't afford a PC so their parents buy them an xbox and call it a day.

2. Money, Money, and Money; period - The mark up on console games is much higher than that of PC games historically, while PC games usually sold for $30-40 console games have sold in the $50-70 for many years now. PC game developers have tryed to artificially inflate PC game prices in the last several years and it is now common to see new releases retail for $50-60, heck MW2 is 59.99.

Well for a start I don't agree with all he said. VAC in my opinion is about 5E9 (5 Billion) times better than punk buster. I've never once been kicked off by VAC. Punkbuster kicks people off for whatever, whenever. If all these people are cheating then it just means punkbuster isn't banning them well enough because they're getting back on servers where they could ruin peoples games, and if they aren't it's unacceptable to be kicked (I've been kicked before and haven't modded anything). Steam will also hopefully control the server browser so you can join a game with someone from your steam friends.

As for the PC market dying it's simply not true. Yes many of the same games are released on console and PC now, but they are very different games. Just look at Farcry 2. On a console the graphics are a pile of crap (saw it on a PS3 and Xbox), on the PC it's stunning. The save system is different and there are other changes throughout. Basically they port from the PC to the console, or at least do some major reworking of the engine before releasing.

Prices of PC games hasn't been going up especially. I just got L4D 2 for Ã,£20, L4D 1 Ã,£20 (both pre-orders). The only time I've every seen a console game beat PC in terms of price was assasin's creed. I think it cost me over Ã,£5 on steam, whereas on the PS3 it had been out long enough to go platinum and be cheaper.

As for non-dedicated servers killing the game we'll see. I was planning on waiting to see the steam price before making any decisions but if it's a steam game I might look at what the best prices are.

What are they thinking or is it just a rushed release and they don't have the time to get it working!? :sideways:

Would you have ever started playing CS with a matchmaking system ? And that basically means high pings and random players. How about mods, no there are not going to be any. How about clan matches or competitions.... no not those either. Dedicated servers are pretty much that defines online playing.
Now we get something like 6vs6 with random publics that can be anywhere from terrible to wonderful, no control over mature game play or rules.
If anyone wants know how this is going to look like try the new Operation Flashpoint and its "awesome" MP.

And for Whitey, I would say it is the money. MS played a lot to get marketing privileges and IW seems to have made a console game. And their equal love to PC players is a port from console(Now think about the graphics, controls.. what is the difference?) with a MP without dedicated servers and no Mod tools, is that right ?

Edit: And now IW forums are down, seems like I'm not the only one disliking this.

Taken from the 141st:

Online Petition for Dedicated Files

This probably wont come to anything but if you are remotely ****ed off about Modern Warfare 2 NOT having dedicated server files, please add your name to this online petition:

http://www.petitiononline.com/mod_pe...d.cgi?dedis4mw

I would also urge as many people as possible to CANCEL their pre-orders.

If IW become aware the millions of people ARE cancelling their orders, their share holders will get upset and this might make a difference
 Bring on the randomness!
Apparently I actually exist! Or maybe it was the drink?

That was my thought. Get the money making going ASAP and then do the dedicated server and other stuff later. From an economic perspective that does make some sense... albeit the hardcore part of the fans would be unhappy.

The game is set for release primo November (well AFAIK) and I know they would want to make the xmas sales. Perhaps making the dedicated servers etc. would endanger making that release date? With music you usually want to start selling no later than mid-october to be sure to get most of the xmas sales... my 2c.
