It has come to my attention that we have some relatively in-experienced players and they are understandably feeling frustrated when they join a versus game full of more experienced players.
It is difficult to grasp the nuances of pouncing, barfing, tounging and defending when there is a game in full flow.
Sometimes they may get berated by more experienced player for little mistakes, which I think is unforgivable but I know it happens.

Therefore I propose that any players who would like to learn more about L4D join some admins for training/familiarisation sessions.

Co-Op mode would be a good start so Survivour tactics and procedures can be got under their belts before embarking on the Infected route.

If any players feel they need a bit more help then let me know and we can co-ordinate some Co-Op games. Things to learn are the Hunter punt, Boomer tactics, Smoker rescues, Horde procedures, vomit damage minimisation, Witch and Tank tactics. Also how to move through the map as a team, covering each other, looking for possible ambush sites, deciding on whether to explore the whole map or only when necessary.

Then the Infected team tactics can be added into the mix. How to play the various classes and our interpretation on what are good tactics to whittle down the Survivors.

This is not intended for regular players but only those who feel confused and frustrated whenever they try to join in the L4D goodness.

I want more players to become regulars and that can only happen if people want to play because they are having fun.
I do exactly what the little voices tell me to.

PC Specs:- Black box with some fans that go whirrr, a few lights, things inside that get warm, headphones, keyboard (a clicky one), mouse (with buttons and no squeak), disks (2-off SSD and HDD) and a monitor of sufficient proportions.

Why not? I am a fairly regular player and I feel confused and frustrated all the time. Be delighted to join your little soiree Snooksie baby.

i dont see myself anything else then a fresman beginner of sorts..

But tbh i found the most frustrating part about being a newcomer at dMw servers the fact that some regulars actually start shouting at you if you dont, for example notice a hunter on their face within nano seconds..

Because we actually do have that happen every now and then

Kreg, I understand what you are saying. Some people get excited and panicky so maybe that comes across as though they are shouting orders? :g:
Anyway this is not what I would like discussing in this thread. If anyone has any problems with another players behaviour then that should be dealt with in the appropriate way. I don't want to start a flame war here.

Usually a quick 'Oi shut it mate, I'm a bit busy myself' should deal with it. :norty:

It wasnt my intention that it should be disgussed at all, i just wanted to point out that this was a factor that might scare off the newcomers, and merely wanted regulars to keep this in mind.

Snooks, it's  a great idea and fair play to you for thinking of it and, putting your time into it. I think that Kreg also agrees with the idea and that any tuition, game play ideas, etc., would help stamp out the need for verbals whilst in-game.

As already said, I 'll be joining the tuitions.

If there's pointers on the Hunter I think even I could use that. It's a pain to use properly compare to the smoker and the boomer.
As for shouting at people for not noticing peing pounced etc. I shout to let people know. I don't should for one particular person. "Help, I've been pounce, I'm still pounced, help, help, help" etc. This is not being rude to newcomers in my opinion. It doesn't matter if I'm playing with the most experienced players if they don't know you've been pounced you're as good as dead. The faster they save you the more health you have and the better condition you're in. If you're down and your team know however there's no excuse for spamming comms as you're in no immediate danger. Be patient, your team want you to survive, but have to make sure they don't get hurt in the process.
Juggling Hard Disks over concrete floors ends in tears 5% of the time.

Beginners could definitely do with some more love. I notice a lot of players that just want to rush some of the maps, since it gives you a better chance of surviving sometimes.

This does lead to beginners getting yelled at when they are trying to do some exploring of the little less important bits of some maps. I've got the game a couple of months now and I don't see myself as a beginner anymore, but I still notice stuff I hadn't seen before and I'd like to check some rooms for stuff like pills or explosives every now and then without getting yelled at to not run off or keep up.

So beginners, I feel your pain ;) If you need some help or tips give me a shout, I'd be glad to help.

Jim

OK, depending on how the games go tonight we might be up for an initial session later this evening, say about 9-ish?
We can probably squeeze in a bit of Co-Op before bed time?
I have Brown and Kreg(?) down, any more?
We'll take a sedate stroll through a few levels. :flirty:

Anyone want an early evening session tonight before going onto CS:S?
Say at about 19:00 until 20:00-ish?
If so I'll see you on the Co-Op server.

Sorry, our guests have turned up early so I'll be getting sloshed instead.
