I saw this is on Steam now (pre orders for September) and was wondering how popular is this going to be?

If people with beta keys could give mini reviews about what they like and dislike etc as I can't download anything on my current connection to try it out. Videos make it look worth testing, and with my money from studying next year I'm in a position to spend monthly on a game if it's good (though I've never done it before)

My CE when downloaded shows 'North America' but a ticket to NCsoft support said that this is normal and at launch it will show and offer European servers.

I can confirm that this is how it was in beta too. :)

Tutonic

Hmm, looks interesting.

Has anyone given this enough time to deliver a verdict on it yet?

Engine wise, the game looks beautiful and runs superbly on any reasonably new PC.  As a comparison, it runs as well as, if not better than WoW on my PC.

The gameplay is pretty standard for an MMORPG, you get quests, you complete quests, you get xp.  The combat system is very nice with skills which chain off each other giving it a very fluid feel.  Class roles are very distinct compared to other MMORPGs.

I didn't get a chance to do much PVP in beta so can't comment on it too much, except to say that there's a full pvp scoring system with points, ranks, and rewards.

There are a variety of trade professions from weaponcrafting through to cooking.  There are craft tasks you can take to level a crafting skill using cheap materials available from the vendor, but useful items require gathered materials.  All materials (except aether) use the same gathering skill so you can gather anything you come across to gain skill.

Elite mobs in Aion are much tougher than in WoW, and there are whole areas full of them which are great for group quests. :)

Well that's about all I'll give away just now. :P

I'm now downloading the Beta. Sadly I closed the downloader last night thinking it would resume, but no it starts again lol. Looks like it uses the CryEngine, so basically a MMO with the shine of crysis, me likey, especialy as everybody and their mother seems to use the unreal engine these days lol.
Also seems it follows a character progression path similar to Asheron's Call 2, and if I remember rightly EQ2, it's nice for you to get a feel of the basics of a class before you commit to the advanced 'tree'.

For the peeps who have been playing it already:

How good is it really? Same as WoW, Better than WoW etc....

Control, does it work in the same way as WoW?

Shall i wait a couple of months to see how people feel about it after launch?

Basically.....im a bit bored of WoW is this something new?

I quit WoW back in June and having played the beta events, I much prefer Aion. The most important thing to bear in mind is that PVP is a big focus in Aion and not just an afterthought like in WoW, whereas in WoW the main endgame is PvE.  So in that respect they are quite different.

Graphically Aion is years ahead of WoW as you would expect.

The controls can be set up just the same.
