Got sent a link to this, not sure if ti has been linked already and can't find anything similar, but I found it quite entertaining - particularly the bit about 4 year honours students!

Nice find TL, very interesting watch, especially the bit about computers, I wonder if it will be true, theres only one way to find out though, so we gotta sit back and wait for a while :(

Moore's law has been pretty precise this far, so just need to see what it brings in the future. Interesting numbers but not really surprising, that is the way this is going.

The number of transistors is coming to an end because each one is down to just a couple hundered atoms across, however the computational power of the processors is still going up at the rate predicted I believe.

I just love to put a damper on these things :)

While the technological wonders are ..... well wonders, we still live in a world where during the time you watched that video four thousand five hundred people contracted malaria and 3000 children die of it in sub Saharan Africa each day. And the rate hasn't changed much since we invented the Internet. Seems we can't fix everything.

Why would we want to though? If the death rates dropped the demand for international food aid would go up. The population would rapidly go up and there would be many other associate problems. We don't have an infrastructure that could adapt to such a rapid change.
Just be thankful we're better off group.

P.S: I don't see charity work at an all time high either the television has a lovely way of making people not seem like people if you don't like what you see.

I may have come off a bit harsh then.

I was trying to put across the point that it's not simply a case of reducing the cost of medicine and increasing the amount of food aid. It would require a very large change in western peoples lifestyles.

lol possibly :)

One thing that really bugs me is the larger charities and the amount they waste. :ranting2:

We do a monthly standing order to a couple of charities. Not a huge amount - maybe a few hundred pounds a year. What really gets me is the glossy literature they send through the post and the continually begging letters asking for more. If we wanted to give more we would. The final straw was when I got a phone call from one from a bloke who's opening words were "I'm being paid to make this phone call........ " my immediate response was why the hell are they paying you to ask me to pay more money? It really hacked me off that we stopped paying them. I have a friend who works for the Red Cross who, on landing at an airport in Eritrea spotted a nice shiny row of brand new Oxfam 4x4s sitting on the tarmac unused. I mean sheesh :sideways:.
