EDIT: Server is back up.

Can I assume that patch 1.04 wiil be all I need to bring the basic disc installation up to date?

I've been watching loads of videos on this and I'm struck by how similar it is to Operation flashpoint. I hope it's better than that. :g:

1.04 is the latest, you can get it here: http://www.arma2.com/support/updates/folder.html?lang=en

It's very similar to the original Operation Flashpoint, but nothing at all like the sequel.

Multiplayer is a hoot, come and join us :)

Off to a good start! Installed game, ran patch 1.04 patch install ended with an error in ADDON ~. Tried to run game, that was OK but on trying to play bootcamp was told that I cant play that because it's unavailable.
I shall uninstall it and start again. :sideways:

Doorman

Reinstalled it, played the boot camp for a bit THEN patched it. It seems not to like being patched right out of the box. :g:
Anyway, if any of you get wounded, I'm the man to drag or carry you to safety. :lmfao:

Well up to a point. I get dreadful graphics flickering no matter what configuations I use. I've Googled it of course and it seems like a common problem, one with no definitive answer. Seriously irritating! The controls are a mess, but I guess I'd eventually get to grips with them....I hope!
As a general observation not aimed solely at ArmA II, I am amazed that after 15 years or more of computer gaming joining and leaving a game came be such a chore.Think CS and how easy and intuitive it is. From the moment you decide to play to actually playing is, or at least appears to be, less than a minute. Compare that to newer games.

Yes dear, coming!

Doorman

Update if anyone's interested. Flickering has been cured by forcing Vertical sync OFF. That has to be done in the ATI control panel as there's no option for it in game.
Controls coming on. :)

Tutonic

You'll get used to the 'floaty' controls in time.

Although if you play on our server, you'll probably spend most of your time getting team-killed by OldBloke in his T-90 :crying:

I'd avoid worrying about the keys. They'll come as you play. All you really need is;

wasd - move
zxc - crouch, prone, stand
v- jump obstacles
shoot and reload to start with.

I just tried one of the beta patches and jumped in a multiplayer game.  I'm tired now so I'll just say that it is wonderful.  If you can believe it, the developers are actually active on their forums and posting new beta candidates within hours of issues being pointed out! A refreshing change.

Ha! Between starting this post and going to check the beta patch page, they released a new version. :P

Latest patch at the top of this page:

http://www.arma2.com/beta-patch.php

Don't worry, you can run the beta patch in multiplayer games without the server having it, and it doesn't overwrite any files so you can run the official patch any time you want. :)  It'll create a shortcut in your Arma2 folder which you can use to run the beta version.

The Moose

..and I'll just add that in addition to all the bug fixes performance has increased greatly (for me anyway) with the latest beta patches.   Better framerates, far less stutters.  Overall a much smoother, nicer experience.

Anyone with a less than top quality machine that had marginal performance really must give the beta patches a go.

Liberator

Ah good, the 1.05 patch removes the DRM, so it looks like no need to have the disk in for us DVD owners.

Whitey

The dMw Arma II server has been patched to version 1.05.
